Ornaments, part 2

By special request from a poster: one photo is an ornament arrangement from a couple of years ago. Three rings are filled with ornaments; the fourth (between the smallest the next smallest) hadn't been decorated yet when the photo was taken. This predates digital cameras, so the quality isn't great, but you get the idea.

The rings are simply wire wreath frames bought at a crafts store. The string, which is nearly invisible until you wrap lights around it, is fish line. The whole assembly is hung from the ceiling on a hook like the kind you'd use for a hanging plant.

Warning: the line-up of the fish line is tricky and requires some juggling to get the rings perfectly horizontal with respect to the floor.

A NON-ORNAMENT

The second photo, a close up of this year's arrangement, shows an unusual "ornament" it's a piece of the interior roof of my husband's '74 blue Chevy Nova … our "dating car" if you will.

Over the years before he got rid of it, the car fell apart piece by piece. Finally, the whole ceiling came down one Christmas. I cut a piece and hung it on the tree and now it has a place every year.

Next to it is a standard car freshener, to give my grid the scent of the holidays.

Do you have any ornaments that are pieces of your life?

Thank you so much for posting this - it's much longer/taller than I had envisioned. It's a great idea, and I really love that you do have lights on it. One could even do smaller versions with "themed" ornaments, one for each room, and you don't have the big expense for actual trees. Don't you love the world of crafts? You can take an idea and run with it, putting your own unique twist on it. Thank you again for the great idea!

Nice job! And so nice for me to see a bit of the house! xoxoxo

Allison, I like the idea of smaller versions around the house ... maybe just one ring. I'm going to try that. I have lots of themes as I'm sure everyone does ... New York is one, also schools, and computer related.
Thanks!

I have a toilet paper roll cone Santa that my baby sister made for me. He's my favorite ornament, and a triumph of ingenuity over supplies!

I'm trying to picture that Joanna! Is the roll Santa's body?
Inquiring crafters want to know!

... Do I see a UCB ornament off to the right? Go Bears! (or at least, go Berkeley! ;-) ).

I have so many ornaments that are special to us. This year, my daughter and I were exclaiming "Do you remember...?" for nearly every one we pulled out of the boxes. I even have some ornaments I did as a kid (colored glass balls, fill partway with sand, shake and rotate 'round and 'round to take the reflecting part off the inside, then glue sequins and bits of this and that on the outside.) Ah, the memories!

Yes, that's a UCB ornament, Ann Parker! I should have put my Fordham ornament in front!

And let me say that one of my favorite ornaments was made by Ann Parker .. it's an eggshell that she painted with a New York scene on one side and palm trees on the other. A multi-talented writer and crafter!
