What I've been working

Writing a book takes a long time. Making a quilt can take a long time too. While I don't write short stories while I'm working on a novel, I do make quick and easy projects while working on a quilt. Who am I kidding? I have as many quilts going as I do books being read at the same time - as many as I can keep track of.

Here are some small projects I've been making.

This is a cell phone case for my catsitter. The pattern is called Maggie and comes from Lazy Girl Designs. The girls know how to design fun projects.

And one in my new favorite fabric: Crime Scene Tape!

My local quilt shop, The Granary in Sunnyvale, is participating in the American Patchwork & Quilting's One Million Pillowcase Challenge. A million pillowcases will be given away. I've made several, so far.

Some cute sale fabric:

Leftover Halloween fabric is sure to appeal to some ghoul.

More pillowcases. These are gifts for siblings. I made a quilt for the new baby, but don't want to leave out the older kids. Pillowcases are great for that.

For some kooky twins born on St. Patty's Day:

For a pretty girl:

And a fishy boy:

My personal favorite. All you need is love, indeed.

Those are great quilting projects and I love the various samples. Do you have instructions on making the cell phone case and pillowcases? I love the idea of new uses for quilting projects.

Lovely pillow cases - I got the opportunity to join in the fun, too and am just ready to send mine off to the quilt shop, and made a couple of gifts as well. Love your fabric choices!!!

Fabric does make our life more colorful. There is great stuff out there.

Dru, the cell phone case is a pattern by Lazy Girl Designs. They have great patterns with easy to follow instructions. It's called the Maggie. I've made their purses as well. The pillowcase instructions can be found on the All the People quilt website.

The crime scene tape fabric is so much fun. I'm going to make an apron to include in a raffle basket at Lee Lofland's police academy. The cell phone case will be in the Killer Hobbies basket at Malice.

Good job, Peg. I'd love to see your pillowcases!

I sometimes do signings at quilt shows. When I was just started doing this, while walking around on break I started buying small samples of fabric, all with chicken patterns. I was surprised when people asked if I was making a quilt -- of course I wasn't! I don't quilt! But after a couple of years of collecting fabric, I realized I had to do something with it. I tried making a quilt, but quickly realized I have no talent whatever for it, so I had to hire someone to make my chicken quilt, which turned out beautifully. Beware, everyone; quilt fabric is addictive!

Quilt shows are dangerous places, Monica. It is an addiction, one I'm proud to have.

Where did you find the clips for your cell phone carriers? I like those clips. They are smoother and less pinchy than the other kind. I am prone to getting pinched with metal clasps for some reason.

I am invigorated to make a pillowcase. I haven't tried it yet, though it is on my list. Perhaps I will do one for the challenge. Did you buy 1,000 yards of the crime scene fabric? -)

Thanks for posting your projects! I love seeing what others are doing.

Hi Jaye, nice to see you here. I bought the clips at the Granary. She always has a bowl full on the checkout counter. It's not far from where we meet for CQFA.

I bought out the bolt of crime scene fabric but that was only a couple of yards. :)

Seeing your pillow cases as made me want to clear the path to my sewing machine. I love all your colors and patterns. What a great gift idea.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with a bunch of books I'm reading at the same time and ditto for projects
