Never Ending Story

I did it! I met the deadline for GUARDIAN WOLF, the third novel in my Alpha Force shapeshifter miniseries for Harlequin Nocturne. I e-mailed the manuscript on October 31 (yes, Halloween) to meet the November 1 deadline.

Does that mean I can breathe a little better? Well, yes and no. I did take the time today not only to vote, but also to help take my son to the airport, which meant that my volunteer time at Pet Orphans of Southern California occurred later than usual. Not much time to write.

However, my next deadline isn’t far away: December 1, for the proposal for book #4 in the Alpha Force miniseries. More deadlines to come after that, both for Harlequin (including Nocturne Bites) and Berkley Prime Crime (Pet Rescue mysteries).

I used to be an excellent time manager, especially when I had a full-time job, young kids at home and a drive to write. Now, I get things done, but I’m less organized about it. Does that stop me from taking on more? Of course not.

Neither does it stop me from worrying about it.

How about you? Are you skilled at time management? Give me your suggestions--including how you don’t let the Internet affect your schedule... too much!

I take care of the little things first then I have the time for the more complicated.

I actually welcome the time I spend on the Internet because it lets my mind wander and surprisingly I sometimes get my best ideas that way.

Good plan, Dru. How fun that your subconscious takes over when you're on the Internet. I'll have to suggest that to mine!

I guess I'm a bit like you. I used to be better at managing my time when I had a job and small kids. But I'm getting better at it again, because I'm at home now with a brandnew baby. No more lollygagging about, stuff needs to get done while she’s sleeping (for some reason I get absolutely nothing done when my older kids come home from school).

I don't like writing 30 minutes here, 15 minutes there, but it's the only way I can get any writing done these days, and that includes e-mails and blog comments :-)

Thanks for using up some of your precious writing time by commenting here, Nadja! Hugs to your new baby--and older kids too, of course.

The busier I am, the more productive. I seem to manage my time better when I don't have much of it!

I think you've got it nailed, Janie. The more we need to get done, the more we can accomplish!

There's an old saying, if you want to get something done, ask a busy person to do it.

It's so true, Monica!

I spend so much time deleting junk emails that I barely have time to read the real ones. I have learned to ignore all those tabloid quality teases on the aol home page.
