New Years Eve 2010

I get the Eves. First Christmas, now New Years. Is anybody reading blogs or are you all busy getting dressed up in your best for a glittering party?

Not me. If our plans hold, I’ll be dressing in my imitation Ugg boots, a warm coat and gloves and around 1 a.m., we’ll will head for Pasadena. Last year was the first year we went, but we all agreed it was definitely a keeper.

The night before the Rose Parade all the floats gather along Orange Grove Avenue. Giant lights are put up to illuminate the residential street. And you can walk past the whole line. Last year it was an interesting crowd. Everything from people in tuxedos and evening wear, to teens too hip to be cold, dressed in shorts and hoodies

The atmosphere is festive and fun. I love seeing things from a surprising perspective and viewing the floats this way certainly is. The street is lined with big houses and condo buildings and the middle of the street is bright as day and there are people in sleeping bags on the grass parkway.

It’s much colder here this year. I know - we’re all wimps in Southern California, even mentioning a temperature hovering around freezing when back east there’s an overload of snow. It’s a cover your outdoor plants night for sure.

It seems like everyone wrote about resolutions all week. I don’t make any. It seems like a lot of pressure to say you’ll start something January l, so I don’t wait for the New Year to do stuff. I am already writing and thinking about getting the stuff together for our income tax. I never stopped going to the gym.

So, hope everyone has a Happy New Year! And now I'm going to put on my coat and go cover the carnations in the backyard.

Happy New Years!

I enjoy my daily visits to this blog and discovered all of your work and I can't wait to see/read more of your books next year.

Your plans sound like something I would love to do.

We went to visit some of the float decoration areas this year, Betty, so I'll just watch the parade and finished floats on TV. Your expedition sounds like a wonderful way to bring in the new year.

Dru, we're glad to have you as a regular reader of our blog.

Nancy, it is a definitely a fun thing to do.

Linda, I bet you'll watch the parade differently now that you have more of a relationship with the floats.

Enjoy! Don't forget to bring a crocheted scarf or cowl!

I second Dru's thoughts about looking forward to reading your blogs and books in 2011. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and creativity with us.

Planner, I wore my crocheted cowl and was very glad to have it. It was really chilly.
