Getting Organized--and a Special Offer

The top ten New Year's Resolutions lists nearly always includes getting organized. My new home sat empty for three years, so there's plenty of work to be done. I've been busy cleaning, painting, and settling in. Of course, this wouldn't be home for me without my scrapbooking supplies. I decided to turn a large coat closet into my scrapbooking room.

I started by taking out all the old shelves, painting them with a fresh coat of white paint, and then painting the interior a lovely sand color. Next, I organized my supplies, put them in containers, and used my label maker. Here's how it looks--

My friend Yvonne is going to add a new shelf for me, one that fits over the door. That's a great use of wasted space. She'll also make a drop down desk for me, one that folds up against the wall.

Another VIA (very important activity) was calling a pest control service to spray for silverfish and palmetto bugs.

One night I heard the pitter patter of little feet. The next day I called the pest control guy, John. "I think there's something in my attic."

Actually, it was two "somethings," a male and female rat. They must have chewed through one of the vents in the roof.

John was pretty sure he'd caught all the vermin, but just to be sure he set a few more big traps around the house. A few days later, my dog Rafferty was nosing around under the front deck. I decided to see what was so fascinating--

Yep, that's one mighty surprised land crab. They tell me that in the spring, hundreds of crabs march across the island. That should be quite a sight!

wow, I never thought a rat trap would capture a land crab.

Nice use of closet space.

Dru, who knew? Even John was surprised...but I bet the crab was the most surprised of all!
