Left Coast Crime

I cheated this week. I wrote this Tuesday night and set it up so it should post on Friday. Fingers crossed it works. The reason is that as you’re reading this, I’m in the Land of Enchantment, otherwise known as New Mexico. Santa Fe, New Mexico to be exact. I’m there for the Left Coast Crime Conference.

It’s a fun conference with lots of mystery writers and fans. I’m on a panel on Friday. The title is something like are labels helpful or harmful. I think harmful is a bit of a strong word. Labels on mysteries might be limiting - but harmful? I don’t think so.

For now Santa Fe is just a jumble of listings in the guide book I bought. It always fascinates me how my perspective changes after I’ve been to a place. All I have now are two dimensional pictures and snippets of descriptions. It doesn’t cover the smell of the air, what the altitude feels like or what the vibe of the city feels like to me. I know that once I’ve been there, I will never look at the book quite the same.

I will report on it next week, hopefully with pictures.

I know you may not see this for a while, Betty, but have fun and I'll look forward to hearing about the conference.
