Book club

Ads for the latest Sarah Jessica Parker movie have made me nervous. I Don't Know How She Does It was one of my favorite reads this year. Written by Allison Pearson, the book was dense and funny. Beautifully written, laugh out loud funny. It talked about what many think to be true: that women are doing more and more. The topic is broached with such good humor and insight that the point gets across without ever being mean-spirited. I have my doubts that a two-hour movie starring SJP will do the same.

My friends threw me a birthday party last week. I asked everyone to bring their favorite book. Here's what I got:

The Secret History - Donna Tartt. This was the only book I'd already read. Loved it.
Sarah's Key - Tatiana De Rosnay
At Bertram's Hotel - Agatha Christie
The Murderer's Daughter - Randy Susan Meyers
No! I Don't Want to Join a Bookclub - Virginia Ironside
So Near - Liza Gyllenhaal

There is a lot of great reading in my future.

Read any good books lately?

I'm going to be on the road today and may not be able to check the 'net until later today. Please comment when you can.

What a great idea for birthday gifts, Terri. Have fun reading all those books! I'm not familiar with most of them so I'll have to check them out.

I keep seeing the ads for the Sarah Jessica Parker movie. It seems pretty predictable. Woman has too much to do, and makes lots of silly mistakes.

Make sure you have a good cup of tea and a few treats on a doily handy when you sit down with Bertram's! :)
