Being Late

I blogged last week about starting a race to promote my second Pet Rescue Mystery, THE MORE THE TERRIER, and about how much I’m trying to do. I even mentioned needing a nudge to remind me about one of my guest blogs because of the timing of when I’d first discussed it.

Last night, I nearly missed an event that had been planned for a while, a discussion at a library. Not that I really forgot about it. I’d just jotted it down on my schedule as being tonight instead.

I raced across the San Fernando Valley--if you can call driving in freeway rush hour traffic a race any more than the promotion I described as a race last week. Fortunately, I’d called ahead and although I was late some very nice readers waited for me. They had a lot of great questions, too.

Even so, I feel as if I didn’t learn my own lesson last week. I need to breathe a bit more and confirm that my calendar is accurate.

I definitely appreciate all the great people who read my work, help me schedule what I’m up to... and understand when I’m not entirely on time.

Does it bother you to be late? It absolutely bothers me!

Hi Linda -

No worries! We were thrilled to meet you. What a great story (stories) that you have. Thanks for taking the drive over to Agoura Hills - in rush hour. We know that you could've said 'no.' Love your books! Thank You!

Hi - I hate being late. I would rather arrive 15 minutes or more early than to be late!!! Dee

Commented on Killer Characters that you were a busy lady, as I'd just seen your post on Dollycas. Hope things slow down, but best wishes for success.

Thank you so much for your kindness, Jane. It was really fun for me--definitely worth the trip!

That's my opinion, too, Dee, so that made my being late even harder.

I'm off to those two blogs next, Liz V. How great that you visit them all! And thanks for your good wishes.

And you usually are early, Janie, or at worst right on time!

Isn't it wonderful when you race to get to something and have lovely fans on the other end??

Ah, you've put such a good spin on it, Terri. Thanks! And you're right.

Yes it does bother me if I'm late which is why I arrive at least 30 minutes before I'm expected.

I grew up with a mother who was always late. As a result, I'm usually at least 30 minutes early. So is my husband. :) Unfortuntely, it skipped a generation. Our daughter barely makes it on time. I never mind waiting but if I'm going to be late for anything, I'd rather not go.

Love your blog. I'm going to explore your archives. :)

I always try to be early, Dru--but it doesn't always work. Sigh.

Thanks, Jess! I suppose I used to be even more determined to be early but I'm married to a wonderful man who nevertheless doesn't worry about being on time. Over the years, I've become less strict about being early and he's become less determined to be late.

I don't like to be late or to rush, so I probably take too much time to do everything.
