Chocolate as a Natural Remedy & Giveaway!

I've been a chocoholic my whole life. Reading and eating chocolate is the ultimate guilty pleasure. Milk chocolate is yummy but eating dark chocolate is a great natural remedy for your health. In my writing I focus on natural remedies (and in my new mystery DEATH DROPS: A NATURAL REMEDIES MYSTERY) so this is something that I find interesting. Dark chocolate is one of the best natural cures around. That’s because dark chocolate is loaded with flavonoids, a kind of antioxidant, that protect the body from free radicals which can cause many chronic conditions such as heart disease. Dark chocolate is an effective natural remedy because it:

Reduces blood pressure by dilating blood vessels.

2. Lowers cholesterol

3. Slashes the risk of diabetes (by cutting sugar use and stopping insulin spikes)

4. Inhibits the clumping of blood platelets reducing the risk of blood clots and strokes.

5. Stimulates endorphin production, which makes you feel good

6. Contains serotonin which acts as a mild anti-depressant

7. Has theobromine and caffeine which is stimulating and helps you focus

8. Activates certain enzymes which help prevent cancer

9. The key with chocolate that is good for you is not to overdo. Just eating an ounce or two several times a week is enough to reap dark chocolate’s benefits. What kind of chocolate do you like best? Leave an answer and you may win a copy of Death Drops: A Natural Remedies Mystery! For more info please visit www.chrystlefiedler.com.

I love all chocolate - white for cakes, milk for just melted goodness and dark for filling croissants.... mmm drooling now.

Dark chocolate has always been my choice. Sometimes that worked to my advantage when others would prefer the milder milk chocolates in a variety box of candies. You may have done me a disservice by encouraging others to want my favorite (LOL).

Thanks for all the information... and for the chance to win.

I'm a fellow chocaholic, Chrystle, and I especially love dark chocolate. Delighted that it's actually good for me!

Yes, all kinds are good! It is nice to know that dark chocolate is good for you though. Chocolate without guilt! Although, I think eating most food is okay in moderation. Thanks for stopping by!

My name is Kathleen and I am a chocoholic. Hershey's dark chocolate has always been a favorite. I also like several brands that come in 70% cocoa. It's amazing how sweet milk chocolate tastes after eating the richer dark chocolate!

Wow, Chrystle, I didn't realize dark chocolate had all those benefits. I'm sitting here with a stack of single source dark chocolate bars from Trader Joe's. I am curious to compare the flavors.

I love all chocolate, but it's a rare treat these days. After reading this I have a craving coming on. Growing up, Coffee Crisp Chocolate Bar was my favorite. A double whammy of caffeine!

Dark chocolate is my favorite. Especially when it's on candy from Heggy's in Canton, Ohio.

Even M&M's are made in dark chocolate now!

I'm pretty indiscriminate in my chocolate tastes, but if forced to pick one, I'd say milk chocolate. Or any chocolate paired with coconut...or peanut butter...or vanilla cream...

I'm a Peanut Butter Cup person who also loves Starbuck Mochas with whip. I always knew women needed chocolate. Now I know why.

Ah, Dark is the very best. But I am not adverse to any chocolate - I'm an equal opportunity chocoholic! I'd love to win your book. Thanks for being a blogger at Killer Hobbies.
