Last year at this time, my son’s wedding was taking up most of my thoughts. It barely registered that I had a the hardcover edition of Behind the Seams coming out and the mass market edition of You Better Knot Die. I think most of the promotion I did was aimed at Behind the Seams.

In a few weeks, I have two books coming out again - the hardcover of If Hooks Could Kill and the mass market of Behind the Seams. I found that I was going on about how beautiful the cover of If Hooks Could Kill is, but not saying much about Behind the Seams. Suddenly it hit me that I should be promoting both books

I want to include Behind the Seams in the guest blogs I’m doing around the time the books come out, but I’m not sure how to mention it. It’s not a new book, since it came out in hardcover a year ago. So what do I call it?

Should both books have equal billing? Even though the books are all stand alones, there is a certain order to them. And Behind the Seams ends on a cliff hanger that is solved in If Hooks Could Kill.

I asked the Berkley publicist and she said by all means to mention Behind the Seams in the publicity I’m doing, but she didn’t tell me how to do it.

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If it were me, I would start by mentioning the Behind the Seams paperback first and not spend too much time on it. Just remind them it is coming out and some of the reviews.
Move on quickly to the new book and it's charms. And show some "Killer Hooks" for those of us that really appreciate a good crochet hook!
I'll take my free copy now....

Linda, interesting idea about mentioning Behind the Seams first. Thank you!

You've made a good start here, mentioning both books. I would have suggested blogging about the new book, then closing by reminding readers of the previous book in the series. I for one, missed that one, so a mention would be appreciated, I'm sure.

What a nice dilemma to have, Betty! I think, whichever one you start with, make sure to give equal time to the other. They're both important!

Thanks for the suggestion, Nancy. I think I'm going to add Crochet Mystery #6 to Behind the Seams and Crochet Mystery #7 to If Hooks Could Kill.

I like the idea of adding the numbers to the books when you talk about them. That not only gives them an order, but it promotes the previous books, too, by informing us that there are seven books (wow!) in the series. That cliffhanger at the end of #6 is a great reason to bring it up when talking about #7. Reading #6 first is desirable, in my opinion. If I already knew the story after #6, I don't think I would have gasped at the end of #6, and I wouldn't have wanted to miss experiencing that emotional reaction. I can't wait to find out what happens next. So, #6 and #7 are a subset of the series, best read in that order (and you can say your readers told you that!). I think the other books in the series can be read out of order without spoiling anything (although it's fun to read them in order to see how the characters evolve).

Thanks for the suggestions, Planner. Now to figure out how to word it so it fits in with what I have already written.
