Hotel from Hell

I sent off the needed pages for the cover conference for the second book in the Yarn Retreat series. They had the meeting and decided to go with Silence of the Lambs Wool for the title.

After taking a day off, it was back to working on the manuscript. A last minute trip up north came up for the family business. The bad news is I'm stuck in a terrible room at Extended Stay America. There is no shampoo, the air condtioning is stuck on freezing and the blanket is a joke. There is no closet, the bed is small, the fan in the bathroom has a death rattle. I could go on - the towels are the size of wash cloths, half the plugs don't work and the lights are all depressing flourescent. It's so bad it is almost funny. Extended Stay? Are they kidding? The good news it is only for one night. I hope I can sleep, but if I can't, at least I have a crochet project to work on.

Anybody else have any hotel horror stories?

Oh no! That sounds terrible! I hope you were able to get some sleep despite all those issues and didn't turn into an icicle.

A nice hotel in Sydney, Australia, comes to mind, when the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. I got dressed quickly, but the other residents came out in their pjs and nightgowns, and we all walked down to the street level. People-watching was rather amusing. It turned out to be a false alarm, but they evacuated all of us for a short while until the fire department gave us the "all clear."

Planner, twice I've been in hotels when fire alarms went off. Once when I was in my pjs. I was glad the room came with a robe.

It's the next night now and we're in another hotel that is the complete opposite. The name says it all. It's called the Hays Mansion and is a real mansion. There is shampoo and everything works. I'm looking forward to sleep.

You could always make lemonade out of your lemon of an experience -- set a murder in a horrible hotel.

Glad you got into a better hotel.

Fortunately, I don't have a story to compare with your Hotel from Hell one, Betty--and where I was just staying for the Romance Writers of America conference, a Marriott Marquis, was quite nice.

sounds like the hotel I spent 4 weeks in in Toulouse France when working for a French company. It was not an american chain. There was no airconditioning and it was summer and Toulouse is humid. Several nights I contemplated starting the air conditioned rental car and sleeping in it. I was so glad to go home!

Anonymous, good idea about setting a murder there.

Linda, I'm glad your hotel was nice.

I think I enjoyed the second hotel so much because of the comparison with the first one
