Superstitious

I'm superstitious.  I admit it.  And now it's leading to a lot of fun--a new mystery series!

Yes, I will be writing the Superstition Mysteries for Midnight Ink.  The first one, LOST UNDER A LADDER, will be a September 2014 release.

This series has been under discussion for a while.  I've been hinting about it and even received some celebratory roses from the Orange County Chapter of Romance Writers of America.  But my superstitious nature has made me hesitate to brag about it too much--for fear of jinxing it!

But this week the series name and first title were confirmed.  It's real!
And in case you're wondering, yes, this mystery series also involves pets.  My protagonist Rory goes to visit a very special town that was founded because of superstitions that came true and is now a tourist mecca for those who want to find out more about superstitions.  In Rory's case, she needs to determine if they're real since her fiance wound up dying after walking under a ladder.  When she arrives, her wonderful dog, who's accompanying her, helps to save the owner of the Lucky Dog Boutique, and Rory winds up running that store, at least for a while.
Since it's a cozy mystery, yes, there's a murder.  Plus, there are lots of quirky characters and of course a whole bunch of superstitions are involved--and their reality is discussed.

I'm nearly done drafting LOST UNDER A LADDER and have had a delightful time writing it.  There will be at least two more in the series, and I look forward to writing them, too.

And, yes, my fingers are crossed and I'm knocking on wood that the Superstition Mysteries turn out to be a lot of fun for everyone!

How about you--are you superstitious?  What superstitions mean the most to you?

I am superstitious, though I try not to let it get the better of me. I'm not fond of the number 13, for example, and I tend to see omens. You know, when a day starts out badly, I think it means the rest of the day will go badly - things like that. BTW, congratulations on the new series, it's a wonderful idea and I hope it goes well for you.

Thanks, Monica! I've found that some superstitions seem to work in reverse for me, such as the number 13. Maybe I'll try to work that into the series, too.
