Inevitable Ideas

Just looked it up.  After I meet my two February 1 deadlines (a manuscript for my next Harlequin Nocturne and a revised proposal for my next Harlequin Romantic Suspense) I will still have six deadlines pending for stories for which I'm under contract, including my two mystery series.  They'll take me well into 2016.

In the meantime, I still have promotion and family things to do, as well as inevitable everyday matters.

So why does my mind keep returning to an idea for a book, potentially a series, that's been buzzing around in various incarnations in my head, and on my computer, for years?

I still haven't determined the best approach for it, so it keeps morphing into different characters with different themes and stories.  The only consistent thing about it?  Surprise!  It involves dogs.

Okay.  You're not surprised.  Neither am I.

Heck, that's why I'm here at Killer Hobbies, because a lot of my stories, primarily mysteries, revolve around animals, mostly dogs.  But I've always told the truth: dogs aren't hobbies.  They're family.  And the ones in my new and unfulfilled idea?  They're going to be very, very special.

If I ever settle on the best approach and write the first story, that is.  But my imagination hasn't given up, so I'm not giving up.

Hey, in case you didn't see my Facebook post about it, I bought a shirt this week that says,  "I am a writer. That means I live in a crazy fantasy world with unrealistic expectations. Thank you for understanding."  How true!

So how about you--do you have a long-time goal you're determined to fulfill...someday?

It sounds like you have a lot going on. It's great you manage it so well.
