Frustrations

Frustrations.  Everyone gets them.  Everyone deals with them differently.

At the moment, I'm dealing with several.

First, why is it that things always seem to happen at the same time and conflict with one another?  I recently received an invitation to participate in an event for writers that sounds absolutely wonderful--but it's at the same time as I have an annual family event pending, one where the date can't be changed.  So, unfortunately, I had to have to pass on the writing event.

Then there are some goings-on in my neighborhood that I'm having to deal with, along with other neighbors.  Those involved are pointing fingers in all directions but at themselves, and so far nothing is getting resolved although every once in a while there seems to be a glimmer of hope.

Yes, I know I'm not being specific but I'd feel even more uncomfortable telling you all the details, so I'll just hint at them.

Writing stuff?  Yes, there are some frustrations there, too, but that's partly because of jumping back and forth dealing with some of the other matters, which can be time-consuming.

But one good thing: when my husband went out of town last week, a bleep every minute started resounding through my house.  He's a wonderful handyman.  Me?  My skills in that regard hardly exist.  I narrowed it down to what I thought was a problem with a smoke alarm and I couldn't figure out how to handle it.  But fortunately I learned--thanks to my husband's suggestion over the phone--that it was a battery problem with a carbon monoxide alarm and I was able to just remove the batteries and get the noise to stop.

Otherwise, I'd have to add inability to sleep thanks to a bleep every minute to my frustrations!  And after a total lack of sleep like that?  Oh, yeah, I'd get frustrated with my writing!

It's too bad about the time conflict you have, but family comes first. Lucky your husband could point out what the beep was coming from. The sound is really annoying, but then I guess that's the point.

I hope your neighborhood problems get cleared up and I completely understand why you didn't want to be specific.

I know that annoying beep. Our smoke detectors do it when their batteries are low. So does my cell phone - and there's no way to shut it off when I'm out in public and it starts in. One good thing it's done is to make me make sure it's fully charged before I go anywhere.

Now there's another neighborhood issue I just learned about, Betty. These things take time but need to be dealt with!

At least you know what causes the beeps, Monica. But that must be particularly difficult with your cell phone! At least you've figured out how to prevent that problem.

Back when I worked at Microsoft, I was a senior manager for technical support when all of the dire Y2K predictions were happening. So, being the good manager I was, my hubby went with me and I stayed up all night at work in case anything went wrong. If my employees had to be there, I should be too.

After 24 hours with no sleep, I went home. To a smoke detector beeping every minute. At the time, we lived in a 5-level condo with about a gazillion smoke detectors, all wired to beep throughout the entire unit. It took us a very long time to figure out which one it was, and I almost wept. But we found it!
