Untying the Knot

I won an Internet auction for an early medieval coin last week.  It’s a penny, minted during the reign of Canut (aka Cnut, aka Canute; on the coin it says “CNVT”), who was crowned king of England in 1016.  It is now the oldest coin I own.  The newest in the collection is a two-pound coin with the image of Queen Elizabeth II on it I acquired while in England last year.  I intend to some day have a coin for every monarch (and the odious Oliver Cromwell) between the two - I'm already solid from Edward the Confessor and James I.  Then I'll have 1,000 years of English coinage.  Here’s the coin.  Note the peculiar hat he’s wearing, probably a part of his armor.

Tomorrow we leave for Nashville, where we’ll attend a performance at the Grand Ole Opry on Friday, then Saturday I will be at the Stitchin Post, a needlework shop, from eleven to noon.  Anyone in the area, please come see me.  We’ll have books to sell, including the new paperback edition of Darned If You Do.

Then on to Florida.  We’ll stop at Fort Myers, near which my sister Dolores lives, for a couple of days, then we’ll take a catamaran ride to Key West (whooo-hooo!), then go to Naples to visit two nieces, then start for home.  I’m hoping the weather will be warm and dry so I can bake out the last of this horrible cold.

I’m bringing my laptop with me and hope inspiration wakes up and tells me the direction Tying the Knot should take.

Last night I went to my last Vestry meeting; my term of office is up.  I’m relieved and maybe just a little sad.  It was more responsibility than I thought it would be, but my fellow members were very good people.  No quarrels or power struggles, everyone worked toward getting/keeping the church on a sound fiscal basis.  The rector kept us on task while keeping us in mind of the holy purpose of our mission.  A very good experience.

Your trip sounds like a nice combination of things. I've always wanted to go to Key West. I will be anxious to hear about your catamaran trip.

I'd like to hear about the Hemingway House, with all the 6-toed cats!
