I usually
start writing my Wednesday blog posts on Tuesday, and that's what I did this week. And Tuesday was a strange day, so this will
undoubtedly be a strange post...
As most of
you probably know, the Los Angeles
area is in a drought. My husband and I
have been trying to do our part in cutting back on water usage.
But that
doesn't mean we don't want any water.
Yesterday
around lunchtime, when I turned on the faucet at our kitchen sink, nothing came
out. Nor did any other faucet in the
house work.
My husband
is very handy and he took a look, and couldn't see what the problem was, so we
called a neighbor. We weren't alone with
the problem, and in fact she was on the phone attempting to report it.
A short
while later another neighbor rang our doorbell, and before he could give any
explanation of his presence I said, "Nope, we don't have any water
either." He said he'd called the
Department of Water and Power and they told him there weren't any problems
around us. Hah!
I soon
called back the other neighbor who'd been on the phone. She said the DWP was looking into the
situation and would get back in touch with her--but they hadn't. So, I called
the DWP, and was told that nothing was going on in our neighborhood but the
person I spoke with said she would report the issue and someone would look into
it.
We heard
nothing. Saw nothing. Until maybe a couple of hours after the
interior drought had started I pushed the lever in the kitchen faucet yet
again--and lo and behold, there was water!
So, our
outage turned out to be no big deal, although I would still like some kind of
explanation. Could whatever happen occur
again? Is it likely to? And one effect was to inform me how much it
hurts not to have water available.
I don't
know what the DWP did or didn't do, whether they caused the problem in the
first place or just fixed it, but since the water is back I can only thank
them.
And still
remain curious about the cause.
And by the
way, I still managed to get some writing in despite the distraction!

I'm glad to hear they fixed the water problem.
How strange. It sounds like the DWP wasn't telling you the whole truth. I'm glad it back on. It's nice being somewhere where water isn't an issue and I can take a longer shower without feeling guilty.
Thanks, Miriam. No issues today, fortunately. But yes, I still wonder what the real story was. Enjoy having sufficient water, Betty.
