It was not the Christmas Chanukah weekend I expected. We had loose plans that involved potato pancakes and Christmas dinner, but none of us expected an extra member of the family. My grandson wasn’t due until January 7, but I guess he didn’t want to miss out on the holiday, because Friday afternoon he made his grand entrance just as it was beginning to rain.

We saw him minutes after his was born. There is no nursery anymore - the babies are left with the moms now until they go home, so I spent the weekend holding him and helping her. Jakey looks like my son so it felt very familiar, only this time I wasn’t tired and I could marvel at the miracle of the whole event. I continued grandma duty when they went home.

What a way to end the year!

I still can’t believe that it is almost New Year’s Eve. It has been a busy year. SEAMS LIKE MURDER, GONE WITH THE WOOL and HOOKING FOR TROUBLE all came out in 2016. I wrote A TANGLED YARN which comes out next year. I started working on the next Crochet Mystery.

It seems like yesterday I was planning to get caught up in July when we had no seminars and now July is long gone, and no, I never got caught up. I probably never will now. I want to help my daughter in law and son any way that I can. The spotlight is on Jakey, but his mom and dad need attention, too.

I’m already making plans for next year. I just signed up for the Left Coast Crime Conference in Honolulu in March. I’m considering other writing events. The Crochet Show is going to be in Chicago this year, so I’ll be there for sure. I want to finish all the half done projects that are sitting around my craft room. And then there are my writing commitments in the works.

I’m sure a lot of babysitting is going to be mixed in there as well. All in all I think 2017 is going to be a good year for me. I hope it is for everyone else as well. Happy New Year!
