My Favorite Coffee Mug -- and a Contest

I find it helpful to have a rhythm to my day, especially since I work at home. Without the need to be somewhere at at certain time, it's so easy to let the day get away from you.

I wake up around seven, throw on clothes and walking shoes, and take Jax for a long walkies. When we come back, I make him his breakfast, make myself breakfast, and make a cup of coffee in my favorite mug.

This is a mug that David (my husband) bought for me one Christmas. He said it reminded him of me. That is a compliment, because the design on the mug includes fashionable women in bright colors. Inside the cup it says, "Paris Is Always a Good Idea." That's a reminder of how we visited Paris when Michael was only 22 months old.

Something about the heft of this mug delights me. It's really a two-cup vessel. Not only does it remind me of David, and the good times we've had together, but it also reminds me to fill each day with beauty. And that, I think, is a wonderful way to start each day.

How about you? Do you have a favorite coffee mug? Why is it a favorite? Does it have a saying or an image on it? Please share!

On Friday I'll choose one lucky commenter and send him/her a Starbucks gift card.

My favorite mug is the one my daughter gave me as a gift when she was little. I love to relax with a cup of tea and remember my girls when they were young. It makes me smile every time I use it.

I have two favorite mugs - both from Starbucks. One is from Washington DC and one is from Korea. They remind me of my kids: my daughter works in DC, and my son is in the Army , stationed in South Korea. These are my favorites because they make me feel closer to my children. If I'm missing them, or thinking of them, I drink my coffee with "their " mug. Sometimes I even send them a selfie with the mug, just as a little hello from home. It's our way of connecting across the miles.

Hubby picked up a Cubs mug after the world series win. I'll start using it on opening day.

My favorite mug is from Disneyland and has my favorite character, tigger! He reminds me to be bouncy, carefree, happy and to smile at everyone I see. I love his positive outlook!

My favorite mug was a gift from a student. It was a Valentines gift and says " I love you a latte!"
I've had it for years, and every time I use it I think about this sweet boy. I am a music teacher, and had the pleasure of teaching this remarkable student for 4 years now. One more year left until he leaves our school!
Hello from Bayville, NY!

My son and his girlfriend got me a Michigan Tech Mom and an Eastern Michigan Mom mugs for Mother's Day last year. I have the mugs hanging on hooks in my kitchen so I can see them every day.

My favorite tea mug has a picture of Shaun the Sheep on it from his original role in "A Close Shave". My father loves Wallace and Gromit so it makes me think of him and reminds me of my home in the U.K. It feels so smooth and fits perfectly in my hand.

I don't drink coffee but my favorite mug is a thriftstore mug my mom found and gave to me. As I was admiring it I was reminded of Chip from The Beauty and the Beast, which was my oldest daughter's favorite movie when she was little. I had just gotten into doing vinyl crafts so I decided to turn that mug into Chip. I will post a pic on the Facebook post since I dont know how to do it here.

Favorite is the one from hubby that has cartoon drawings of us in coffee cups and says "I love you a latte!" on the other side. Or maybe the other one from him that looks like a rattlesnake and has snake head that is revealed as you drink the coffee down. Scary!

Husband has surprised me with matching mugs sometimes while out on his business dealings. Unfortunately, we've left some in the car which got crunched. Fortunately, we've frequently bought each other mugs, so we have a lovely assortment. These are my favorite mugs. A gift for no reason, handmade, and bought with loving thoughts for me by my hunny.

No need to enter me in the contest, but I love this topic! My favorite mug used to be one that had a large O on one side and reminded me of my name. Now my favorite is one my husband bought for me recently. It has a wonderful picture of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

I love all these responses! Isn't it fun to hear about the sentiment behind the mugs?

Absolutely! I find it interesting that so many of us are emotionally tied to our mugs.

Who would have guessed? And yet, it makes sense.

My favorite mug says "Reading is my super power." I so wish I had found this while I was working in the public schools do that my students could have seen it daily. I'm a firm believer in the power of reading and a strong promoter of literacy programs.
