One of the things I’ve enjoyed watching recently is the Friends of Big Bear Valley ongoing filming of a bald eagle nest, visible at all hours on the internet. I watched the timing as two, then a third, eggs were laid. The first two hatched. The third, unfortunately, was destroyed in some bad weather. But eagle parents Jackie and Shadow remained around, bringing fish and other food to the babies Sunny and Gizmo. Of course the babies grew, and got as large as their parents. Yes, they fledged, and I haven’t seen them for a while. I haven’t seen Jackie or Shadow either but I’ve seen comments that they still sometimes return to the nest.
With me? Well, time marches on too.
I’m still writing away at my current Harlequin Romantic Suspense series about
K-9s and PIs. I’m still plotting some other ideas. Not a whole lot new and exciting
going on, although I did see John Fogerty’s concert at the Hollywood Bowl. It was
great! Of course I always enjoyed Creedence Clearwater Revival, and John sang probably
all of their most famous songs and more.
Oops! I’m being told by my pup Roxie that it’s time to
take the dogs out. And then it’s back to my computer and writing.
Good morning -- What fun to watch the eagles!! A few years ago, I had a big asparagus fern in a hanging basket on the patio -- I watered it daily with a fairly hard stream of water that sent the basket spinning around. Did it one day and three little bird heads popped up in the middle!! I had no idea there was a nest in the plant!! The birds had been getting a wild ride. I was more gentle until they flew away.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter's dogs survived the 4th with no trauma. Nothing bothers Neo; she had a thunder shirt and stress meds for Elliott so he was fine. He still runs and hides in the laundry room if a fly or mosquito is buzzing around in the house.
Enjoy your day and your writing -- I plan to stay in with the a/c on -- temp is predicted to be 115 -- and do a lot of crocheting.
How fun to find a bird's nest that way, and the little birds within it!
ReplyDeleteGlad your daughter's dogs did okay on the 4th. Ours were just glad when we got home but never seemed concerned about all the noise.
It'll be hot here today too, though not as hot as 115! Stay cool, and enjoy your crocheting.
Last week I think you mentioned the year was half over. That kind of stopped me in my tracks for a moment. How is that possible? There is so much going on in the world at large and in my own life I've barely noticed the year being half gone. Hallmark is doing their annual Christmas in July programming and I've decided I'm going to start thinking Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas and try to forget about all the garbage going on.
ReplyDeleteHolidays are always fun, even preparing for them in advance, Sally. Good things to think about rather than the difficulties of the day. Can't say I'm too excited about watching Hallmark Christmas movies right now, but some do catch my attention when I see they're playing!
DeleteI watch the Hays of Pennsylvania nest and that is also fascinating. I saw the Big Bear eagles on the news all the time. I will watch them from the beginning next year.
