Back at Work

The time has gone to daylight savings and my strawberry plants have hints of fruit.  We had some surprise rain the other day and everything seems to be green and blossoming.

The blooms on my indoor azalea plant looked a little wilted after a few days of neglect, but some spritzes of water brought them back to life. I had to put the umbrella up outside the kitchen window to keep out the direct sun.

But instead of being outside enjoying the spring, I am hovered over my computer.  This is the last go around of DANGER LOOMS.  Its when I make sure someone's name just change in the middle and the characters start out with a hint of how they're going to end up.  It is when I am most grateful to able to move around the manuscript with ease to check things out.

It's intense work and I have to fight the urge to put working off while  got to Costco for blueberries. But eventually, I settle in and get lost in the story and forget about time (and blueberries).

It used to be easier to do that when I was home alone, but now that there is always someone here who seems to need something, it's harder to get in the flow mood.

It's exciting to see what I have and often times distressing when I see what's missing.  And in the end, I hope I manage to keep the characters true to themselves.

But there will still be the copy edit.

  1. Good morning, Betty -- I'm glad your azalea was refreshed with just a spritz of water -- they are such lovely plants. And I hope all your book's characters are who and where they are supposed to be!!

And now, all you Betty fans out there -- I have some great news. On her way home from the Grand Canyon last Monday, Betty came through Phoenix and I had the pleasure of her visiting me!! Max and Jakey were off doing some guy things, and Betty and I had a nice time getting to know each other -- we chattered away for an hour!!

I saw a crocheted blanket pattern that had a long vertical stripe pattern -- I liked the looks but not the stitches used -- a half double crochet and a front post double crochet. So I fiddled around and worked out a way to use the cross stitch pattern -- goofed up the first time because the cross stitch is done over two stitches instead of one as the front post is, but after getting the stitch count right, it's working well.

The weather here has been gorgeous. The potted plants on my patio (say that fast several times!) are putting on lots of new growth -- I'm always amazed how lush succulents can look -- they aren't all prickly cactus. The spekboom plants not only drape way over the side of the pots but they put out lots of tall vertical stems -- a few are about four feet high.

I plan lots of crocheting today -- the new blanket plus I want to make a bunch of centers for the flowers shown in the "Random Acts of Crochet Kindness" book -- I'll like having a center ready when I want to make a quick flower.

Enjoy your day, your editing and the lovely weather.
