Quick Turn Around

First, I’m going to be on a cozy mystery panel with my blog sister Linda O. Johnston at the Ocean Park branch of the Santa Monica library on Saturday, January 18, at 2 PM. Whew, that was a mouthful to get out.

Second, the shoe finally fell and I finally got the edits on Silence of the Lamb’s Wool from my editor. I have six days to make the changes. My editor always sends a letter with her comments along with the manuscript. These days it’s an email letter. Most of her comments were glowing. The changes she suggested were right on as usual.

I also have to make the recipes I’m including in the book. I’d only made the Ebony and Ivory muffins in my head. So, this morning I tackled making them in real life. Somehow in my mind, the batter was closer in consistency to cake batter and I thought swirling the chocolate into the vanilla part of the muffin would be easier. But they taste delicious even if they don’t totally have a marble appearance.

The butter cookie recipe is an old standby of mine, so making them won’t be filled with any surprises.

And then there is the matter of the patterns for the shawlettes. I finished the one made in real handspun yarn last night. But since most people aren’t going to have access to handspun yarn, I’m including directions for using yarn that is supposed to look like handspun yarn as well. My good friend Linda will give the patterns a look over. I don’t know what I would do without her. She is so good at catching all my inconsistencies along with making sure the patterns are understandable.

I’m just about positive I’ll make my deadline, judging by how far I’ve gotten already. Here’s hoping I’m right.

I'm really looking forward to our panel, Betty. I also enjoy hearing how you prepare for getting a new book out there, with all you do besides write and edit them. The recipes and patterns are great!

Linda, it is very rewarding when hear from readers that they've made the recipe or used the pattern. Sometimes they even send pictures of their finished item.

The muffins look perfectly yummy!

I know you'll make your deadline. Congrats on the glowing comments from your editor. I can't wait to read the book. I pre-ordered my copy on Amazon.

Planner, thanks for preodering. It is so funny to see it on Amazon when it still isn't quite done.
