The Fun of Writing

There are a lot of fun things about writing, but a couple in particular were on my mind over the past couple of days.

First, I had an August 1 deadline for a proposal for my second K-9 Ranch Rescue book for Harlequin Romantic Suspense.  I met it, and I'm way into writing the first draft of that book, too.  But it's always fun to meet a deadline.

Second, my younger son sent me a text message from a vacation he was on that included photos of a shelf in a bookstore in the city he was visiting.  Why was that fun?  Well, that photo had a bunch of my mystery books on it, starting with my first cozy SIT, STAY, SLAY from my Kendra Ballantyne, Pet-Sitter Mysteries, as well as my most recent Barkery & Biscuits Mystery BAD TO THE BONE, and several others from those and others of the series I've written.  Yep, fun!

Are those the only reasons?  Nope.  I have fun with the whole writing process, at least a lot of the time.  I do get frustrated at times, or worried, or--well, name the emotion and I've probably felt it.  But I'm always (mostly) glad I'm a published author and that I'm continuing to write more.

Anyway, happy August, everyone!  And if you can tell me why this year is going so fast, please do.

I certainly agree about the year going fast. Also agree about loving to write even if it sometimes feels like pushing a boulder up a mountain. How fun that your son sent you the photo!

I like your analogy of pushing a boulder up a mountain. There are times I sit down to write when I know I have to but don't want to--until I start and the next scene starts pouring out!
