On retreat
Ahhh...retreat. Best word ever.
I just came back from a three day retreat. While I was only an hour or so away from home, I might as well been on Mars. I forgot what day it was. Time only mattered when it was meal time although dinner bells took care of reminding us that breakfast, lunch and dinner were ready.
We sewed, walked the grounds and laugh til we cried. Okay, maybe that was just me.
This would make a great quilt, wouldn't it? The mystery writer mind kicked into high gear when I learned that the verdigris on this old water tank is poisonous.
I got plenty of sewing done. Twelve placemats, one apron, one purse, four little wallets and two quilt tops.
Even a little writing.
Tell me about your favorite retreat and you may win this:

My writers group has two retreats a year, one in the Cities where we live and one away. Going to Lanesboro, a pretty little town down in the southeast corner of the state. Lots of talk, reading to one another, and more talk. There is no Internet or cell phone connection there - it's located at the very bottom of a deep valley - so fewer distractions.
I've not gone on a retreat but yours sounds inspirational, Terri!
My writing group offered to take me camping in the mountains to help with a scene I was writing. That could count as a retreat. Yours sounds great, Monica.
Linda, I recommend it!I guess you'll have to find a dog friendly venue.
Your retreat sounds great, Terri. I went on a working writers retreat once and had a great time.
Your retreat sounds great. I've never been on one, but I do like the quilt projects you worked on.
It's lovely to leave the real world even for just a few days.
Thanks, Dru.

Thanks for the post. I agree with you about retreats. The best kind are the ones where you don't have to cook! I love retreats because there are many fewer distractions - laundry, taking children places, garbage - poof! All gone! Not important. I once went to a retreat at a house overlooking Tomales Bay. I don't remember what I sewed, but I remember sitting ont he large deck in an Adirondack chair looking out over the bay. What peace!
I go with a bunch of quilty friends, twice a year, on retreat. We go to a conference centre about 1 1/2 hours from home. We love that someone makes our beds and our meals for us, so we can just sew. We also play "strip" poker on Saturday night. In our version, clothes stay on and you bet with 2 1/2" strips of fabric. The winner has to make a quilt from them before the next retreat. The last retreat, everybody tried to lose, so they didn't have to make the quilt!
Hey Jaye, great to see you here! Thanks for the comments.
Kate, twice a year would be even better. I've played Strip Poker, too. I can see why someone would arrange to lose!
