An Off Day

I finished writing the synopsis for my seventh crochet mystery. I’m calling it Knot What It Seams, but who knows what the title will turn out to be. I attached it to an email and sent it off to my editor. For a moment I had a feeling of relief. Then it turned into a feeling of loose ends. Now what?

Everything feels a little off. Monsoon moisture has been backing up into the L.A. area for the past few days. The weather feels strange. Instead of dry heat that cools off nicely at night, it’s hot and humid and the nights are sultry and sweaty. I like to turn off the air conditioning and open the window to the night air. But I’ve had to leave it on even though the air feels artificial, kind of like you left the refrigerator door open and are sleeping in front of it.

Even the light feels strange. No bright sun and clear blue sky. There is a thin spread of white clouds and the sky is a pale hint of its regular color. The sun is dulled by the clouds and the light is flat. I know somewhere outside there are tall vertical puffs of clouds poking above the mountains. They look like trouble and are probably dumping the kind of rain that makes flash floods in the high desert.

Do you ever have those days when everything feels like the pieces just don’t fit.

We do seem to have some June Gloom in July, Betty, and that contributes to my mood as well. When I have an off day like that, I hug my dogs--and let them give me even more orders than usual!

Lose yourself in a crochet project and all will feel better!

You are right about the dog thing, Linda. When I took Goldy out just as it was getting dark, everything fell back into its right place.

Planner, I should have crocheted after I sent off the synopsis. It probably would have gotten rid of that loose ends feeling.

"Things fall apart, the center cannot hold . . ." I've had that feeling, too. I agree with Planner, lose yourself in a project. I'm working on a Hardanger bookmark, which can force me to focus and clears my brain of extraneous trifles.

Monica, focusing on a project defintely would have helped, particularly something like a bookmark where the end is in sight.
