I get to
blog on Killer Hobbies on Halloween this year!
When I was
a kid, Halloween was my favorite holiday.
I loved to figure out the perfect costume each year, then go
trick-or-treating in my nice, suburban neighborhood of Pittsburgh .
Back then, I also loved horror stories, so it all fit together well.
Today,
although I still love things paranormal--hence, my Alpha Force miniseries for
Harlequin Nocturne about a covert military unit of shapeshifters--I stay away
from the horror side of them. You don’t
have to be scared to enjoy things that are beyond what we think is
reality.
These days,
we hardly ever get any trick-or-treaters on our narrow, twisty street in the
Hollywood Hills--although doesn’t that sound like a nice, scary setting for a
paranormal story? Plus, Lon Chaney, Jr.,
once owned some property on our block.
Our lack of
trick-or-treaters is probably a good thing for our dogs. Both of them, and especially Mystie, tend to
bark if they hear anything unusual outside, and Lexie leads the barks when the
doorbell rings. We’d be bombarded by
barks all night!
I do have
an all-purpose witch’s dress that I wear every year. It’s black, so I can accessorize it
differently. This year, when I wore it
to the Halloween party for Pet Orphans of Southern California, the excellent
private pet shelter where I volunteer, I wore a glittery T-shirt with a wolf
howling at the moon on top of it.
Appropriate for a creator of werewolves, wasn’t it?
How are you
celebrating your Halloween? What’s your
costume like--or the one you’d most like to wear?

No costume this year. But the neighborhood where I went Trick or Treating was filled with scary witches, gangsters, zombies and cavemen.
No trick-or-treaters at my house tonight, as anticipated, Janie. I should have gone out trick-or-treating in your neighborhood!
We had less than anticipated trick or treaters. Only around 350. At nine we turned off the light and went out to dinner.
Yikes, Betty, and that's less than anticipated. But I'll bet you saw a lot of cute costumes!
