Differences Outdoors

After Monica's post, this one came naturally.  Where are you as you read this?  If you live in nearly any part of the United States, it's most likely cold outside.

And then there's Los Angeles.  I don't mean to rub it in.  But it's really warm here, especially in comparison to most other places.

That means we have to deal with a lot of issues that most other places don't--like drought.  L.A. isn't the driest place out west these days, but the weather systems that bring even our usual rain are avoiding us.  We've all been told to conserve water.  Good thing we have cacti planted in our front yard.

In the worst areas, you're probably dealing with amazing cold, snow on roads causing congestion and worse.  I'd imagine it's fairly quiet outside, although hopefully roads are plowed and salted frequently. 

It's probably also pretty, with snow and icicles adorning your landscape.

Here?  It's been noisy.  There have been some accidents on freeways near us that have involved a lot of helicopters hovering overhead, probably news crews.  Not a good thing, but not as unusual as it should be.

And it's been smelly.  A skunk scented our backyard a couple of nights ago.  I didn't see him, so I'm not exactly sure where he was, but even our neighbors smelled him.  I had to check our yard before letting our dogs outside the next day to make sure our visitor wasn't still around.

But all was okay when we woke up, and since then I've still been hunting for non-smelly evidence of skunk but, fortunately, to no avail.

And I've been sitting a lot, as usual, at my computer, doing what I always do: writing, editing, creating--and getting up often at my dogs' commands to let them outside and give them treats.
