We’ve had a very hot few days and it certainly isn’t shawl weather. But I decided to spend my yarn time on finishing the assorted pieces that have all the knitting or crocheting done, but still have yarn hanging off of them, or in the case of the rose colored shawl, mistakes that need to be covered.
It’s knitted and while the mistakes aren’t terrible, I really wanted to those few wonky stitches out of sight. So it was crochet to the rescue. I love to crochet flowers. They used to be such a mystery to me, but now I understand the basic concept and can make them without directions. I made one large one and a smaller one and after attaching them to the shawl, those mistakes were out of sight and out of mind. I like the way my friend Amy Shelton referred to them design elements.
I’m thinking those design elements could come in handy with other items. Like the black Eileen Fisher sweater that I just love and now has two moth holes on the back. Instead of spending a fortune to get them repaired, why not take a couple of little nips to close them and them add a tiny black flower over each.
Suddenly mistakes and moth holes are a chance to make things into one of kind items.
Weaving in the loose strands of yarn wasn’t nearly as interesting, but I now have a new pot holder to use and a great new pattern to make more of them with. And the sample of the pattern for the next crochet book is done. Now if I can just give that little elephant a face.
