A Bad Night

I had a tough night, but not a complete loss. Everything is research of one sort or another. It is kind of funny that after writing nine books about Molly Pink, an event coordinator at a bookstore, I find myself as the event coordinator for our family business.

Molly has her share of problems with the bookstore events but they are mostly with the authors doing something like messing up a cooking demonstration and setting off the smoke alarm. My problems were all about the attendees of our event last night.

I was going to give details, but decided not to. Suffice it to say I had to deal with some very difficult people.

So what benefit did I get out of wrangling with these unpleasant people. Well, I can write first hand how it feels to have a flood of adrenalin when having a standoff with rude people who think they have some kind of edge, but actually don’t. I can write first hand how it feels to stand your ground in the face of people who think if they argue long enough that you will give in.

Apparently, none of these people had ever heard the cliche about catching more flies with honey than vinegar. Why do people think that being nasty is going to get their way?

Yes, I think I got a whole lot of new material for Molly to be dealing with in the tenth Crochet Mystery which now has an official title of SEAMS LIKE MURDER. Nice that all that unpleasantness had some kind of benefit.

It's nice of Molly to share your stress.

I'm sorry about your experience. Unpleasantness is, well, most unpleasant!

Your attitude about using everything as research is great, Betty, but I, too, am sorry that you had to experience some bad stuff as part of that research.

I know someone who acts like that, mean when she doesn't get her way, and attacks the person just doing their job. I think it gives her a sense of power over some else.

Planner, I'm glad at least I got a benefit out of it.

Linda, now that some time has passed, it doesn't seem as bad.

Miriam, you hit it on the head. It was all about power.
