It rained
yesterday. Yes, here in LA! It was a substantial rain, too, starting at
four in the morning and coming down fast and heavy till nearly ten AM. And then it began again around noon, on and
off for a while.
Sounds odd
to get excited about, and yet we really need all the rain we can get here.
Even so, I
breathed a sigh of relief when it waited till yesterday morning. I had a really fun event the afternoon before
in Huntington Beach ,
which is around fifty miles away from my home.
If the rain had started then, which was part of the original prediction,
I might still be caught in traffic!
The event
was a talk at the Mystery Ink bookstore with Catriona McPherson, who also
writes for Midnight Ink and is additionally the current president of the
national Sisters in Crime organization.
Definitely enjoyable!
More is
happening this week, too. I'll be doing
a chat at Writerspace this evening at 9 PM Eastern time, where I'll mostly be
discussing my September release, CANADIAN WOLF, the seventh in my Alpha Force
paranormal romance miniseries for Harlequin Nocturne.
Then, on
Saturday afternoon, I'll be at on a panel about cozy mysteries at the Redondo
Beach Library North Branch with Ellen Byron, Diane Vallere and Marty Wingate.
But back to
the rain. I grew up in Pittsburgh and would never have imagined
getting so excited about rain, which, along with snow, was a common weather
event. There was also a lot of rain in
LA the first years I lived here, enough that I sometimes considered it
annoying.
Bring that
annoyance back! And not just here but
everywhere that the drought is having bad effects, helping to kill stately and
ancient trees and encouraging wildfires and more.
But one
step at a time. Glad to see you,
rain. And maybe I'll even look forward
to the storms that are anticipated this winter thanks to the forecast El Nino.

I was glad to see the rain, too, but since we are still trying to schedule getting a new roof, it meant I had to shroud things in garbage bags due to leaks.
I'm glad you events are going so well.
Thanks, Betty! It must be hard to schedule roof work now. There's a possible rain prediction again this week, and El Nino is supposedly on its way.
Having rain can be a good thing as well sometimes .
Yep, Ken, rain around here is a good thing!
