Last week I
said goodbye to October. Now, I'll
welcome November! Today is the second
day of that month, the penultimate month of 2016.
What have I
been up to? For one thing, I've been
working on the first book in my new Harlequin Romantic Suspense miniseries
about a K-9 ranch. There, some dogs are
trained to become police K-9s, and others are just taught the skills of being
good pets. Same goes for some of the
people--police officers are taught to be K-9 handlers, and other people are
taught how to work best with their pets.
Eventually, service and therapy dogs might be included. And of course each romantic suspense story
will contain not only dogs, but suspense or a mystery, too--and a romance!
It's been
fun starting to research these stories.
I've had to learn a lot since my dogs have always trained me and not so
much vice versa. I've therefore visited
some training sessions that a wonderful local dog obedience club conducts and
observed and gotten lots of questions answered.
I've gone to demonstrations of various police K-9 units, asked questions
there, too, and obtained a wonderful local contact.
Not sure
when the first book in that series will be published or what its title will be,
but I'm certainly having fun with it!
And yes, it
now ensures that all the books I'm currently writing have dogs in them. I'd been writing for Harlequin Romantic
Suspense previously about my fictional Identity Division, which provides new
identities and other help for endangered people who don't qualify for witness
protection programs. The two books in
that miniseries are COVERT ATTRACTION and COVERT ALLIANCE. Yes, they contained romance and suspense. But no dogs in them, though.
I've got at
least two more paranormal romances coming out in my Alpha Force miniseries for
Harlequin Nocturne--involving shapeshifters, mostly werewolves who also have
cover dogs. The next one, PROTECTOR
WOLF, is now scheduled for June 2017.
And my
Barkery & Biscuits cozy mystery series continues, too. The next one, BAD TO THE BONE, will be a May
2017 release. Of course there are dogs
present, too.
Anyway,
like most months for me these days November will be busy. And fun.
And I hope the same for you.
