The high temperature here in L.A.
will be over 100 degrees all week, at least where I live--near the San Fernando Valley .
Noticing
that our older dog Mystie was breathing fast even while sleeping, my sweet
husband decided it was time for a doggy haircut. He pretty much shaved her yesterday! It wasn't the first time. And it certainly isn't Mystie's favorite
activity. But her fur is very short now,
so hopefully she's more comfortable.
Our puppy
Cari is 10 months old now and thinks she should be the recipient of all our
attention. She wasn't too pleased that
Mystie was our focus for a while, and she was gated out of our kitchen where
the trimming was done. But the instant
the shaving was over, both dogs demanded that we play with them, which of
course we did.
What did I
do to help? Since I'm still not able to
kneel, or get up easily if I sit on the floor, I mostly watched the trimming,
but I did help with the cleanup, and I definitely participated in the post-trim games. That put my current editing on hold for a
while, but it was worth it.
When I
finally sat down at my computer to work, with the room AC on near me, both dogs
fell asleep on the floor behind me. And
yes, Mystie's breathing was slower. :)
P.S. The photo's not current, but it shows my two pups!
Oh, and by the way. When this is posted, it won't be too late to enter to win the first three books in my Barkery & Biscuits Mysteries at the Midnight Ink Facebook site, but if you're interested do it fast! The contest is to celebrate National Dog Day, which was this week:

I'm sure Mystie felt better after her hair cut. I have spent the last week keeping my hair off my neck. Just too hot! It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't humid, too.
That humidity is for real. We even had a brief thunderstorm with pelting rain a couple of days ago. And, yes, Mystie is telling us with insisting on playing and otherwise that she feels better.
