Sizzling End of August

It’s hot here. So hot that when the gardener and his family came, I brought them bottles of cold water and told them to leave the yard until next week.

Normally it cools off at night but this summer we have had a lot of humidity. Last night it was around 90 degrees at 11 o’clock at night.

It’s warm inside, too. The AC can only cool so much no matter how low you set the thermostat. My family refuses to believe that.

And while all this is going on I am trying to finish up the revisions of ON THE HOOK, which I just found out comes out at the beginning of May 2018. It’s not a bad time to be hovering over the computer, but the book takes place in February which is cold and rainy most years. So, I have my characters cold and drenched with rain, while I have a sweaty forehead.

I’m not complaining. What I have to deal with is nothing like the people in Houston have to contend with. My heart goes out to them and after I write this, I’m donating to the Red Cross.

I use the above photo to give me a laugh when the news gets too much. I included it hoping it would give you a smile, too. It’s Jakey in Barstow on his way to Vegas were it’s actually cooler than here.

I have until Monday, well, probably Tuesday since Monday is a holiday to finish the revisions. The changes are not major except that I have to alter what comes after to make sure the book still makes sense. Than heavens for “Find.” I use to move around the manuscript to keep checking that thing follow correctly otherwise it’s going to seem like Molly is clairvoyant and knows the future before it happens.

I have been so focused on the manuscript that I have started to dream about it. Though it was kind of like watching a movie of a scene I really like of Homicide Detective Barry Greenberg letting go as he plays fetch with the dogs in her backyard.

By now I have a love hate relationship going with the manuscript. I really love working on it, but I also hate having to be so focused on one thing. But by next week it will be on it’s way and then I’ll feel sad that my “baby” has left the nest.

Aw, Jakey knows the best places to eat ! He is growing up so fast. I have fans going all over the house, and hope to put in AC next year. It has been awful, and as you said, the nights just don't cool down much at all. May is a long time to wait for the next book--but it is good to know Barry is hanging around and having some fun !

Linda, you have my sympathy for being without AC. Been there. I hope it is a little cooler in Anaheim.

The photo of Jakey makes me smile and I wanted to share.

What an adorable picture! And congrats on having the manuscript nearly ready to go. Hope you're able to stay at least somewhat cool.
