Another Thanksgiving has gone by and now it's full speed ahead to Christmas. We had our first rain of the season last night. It washed most of the smoke out of the air, at least around here. We had dinner in Malibu and came back through Malibu Canyon and the smell of fire was still pungent.
I think the fire down here is completely contained and may even be out completely. I saw a field full of utility workers who are putting telephone poles back up and fixing the electrical lines. There are singed hills right up to the Ventura Freeway.
The world moves on but there are families still reeling from the shooting at the Borderline Grill. The people who lost their homes have so much to deal with. And up north it is even worse.
I thought to myself when I got home tonight how lucky I was to be in a warm cheerful place full of my stuff.
We've gone to the same restaurant for years. It's right on the beach and the view of the water is soothing and beautiful. We usually sit there for a couple of hours and watch the sky fade into evening. We didn't know how it was going to go since my grandson is almost two and sitting for hours in a restaurant isn't exactly the kind of thing he likes to do. But he was wonderful. It only took a little walking him around and a short video on his mom's phone to keep him happy. We sat just as we always have and waited until the sun was already down before we asked for the check.
I'm already back at work finishing up my proposal for something new. And HOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING comes out at the beginning of December.
