Back from Bouchercon And Busy

Yes, I went to Bouchercon last week. It was a lot of fun! I stayed busy for most of it, attending panels and parties.

My panel was enjoyable too: Odd Jobs: Writers Write What They Know. I got to mention my Kendra Ballantyne, Pet-Sitter Mysteries and how I’d been a practicing lawyer when I wrote about Kendra, who, yes, was a practicing lawyer. She also lived in the Hollywood Hills, as I do, and she had a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Lexie—and one of my Cavaliers at the time was Lexie. That’s not what I write about now, but I did mention that my day job now, my odd job of sorts, is being a dog mom, and since I include dogs in nearly all of my books now, I certainly write what I know!

I also attended panels where the panelists wrote about dogs in their mysteries—and I brought quite a few of their books home with me. Good panels! And yes, I attended some others too.

Anyway, I’m home now—and today is a bit of a milestone. The first three of my Pet Rescue Mysteries—the spinoff series from my Kendra books—are being republished today as ebooks and audio books: BEAGLEMANIA, THE MORE THE TERRIER, AND HOUNDS ABOUND. More to come, too, but I wanted to let the world know about today. And yes, the Kendra books are also available as ebooks.

So now—back to writing. My second Alaska Untamed manuscript, CRY WOLF, is due, and I’ll also be working on more Harlequin Romantic Suspense.

Oh, and more conferences in the future? I hope so, including next year’s Bouchercon, which will be in San Diego, closer to my L.A. home than Minneapolis.

Is Bouchercon only for authors?

Thanks, Sally. The Kendra books were my first mysteries and I love them! Of course I love my other books too. :)

Bouchercon is primarily for authors, chkntza, but I believe readers would enjoy it too. The speakers on the panels are authors, and the subjects tend to be about our underlying themes and how we choose what we write and where we go with our stories.
