The Molly book KILLER HOOKS is coming along. I have been working on the crochet project to be included.
But there are always interruptions. The dog was supposed to go to her home on Monday, but there was a problem and she's still here. Meanwhile she's gotten used to having a yard. The problem is that she can't seem to get used to the cats and we have to keep her separate.
And it's become my job to wake up Jakey for school. He responds by pulling the covers over his head and grumbling when I saw "wakey Jakey." I tried playing some nice soothing wake up music I found online and it made him scream and put his hands over his ears. When he was fully awake I offered him alternatives to the wakey Jakey which was an alarm clock. He voted to keep the wakey Jakey.
I couldn't turn down going to the playground today. The weather was perfect and I love watching him play. He makes friends with kids and their parents and when they leave he walks them to the gate. It's a cool playground that has something that vaguely looks like a fire truck that has a slide and lots of things to climb on. The spot used to house a real fire station.
One interruption was a good one. I received word that I'd won a free registration to Writers Police Academy in a drawing arranged by Tami Hoag. It's being held in Appleton, Wisconsin and arranging travel was complicated. It seemed convenient to arrange it around a trip to Chicago, since I'd have to change planes there anyway. I had to mix up airlines. I'm going on one and returning on another. I'm used to American, which I have perks on and was having to deal with United that I don't have perks on and has different rules. And that doesn't even take into account how I'd get a reservation set up only to have it disappear from the screen and have to start again. We have to be everything these days, including travel agent.
I am excited about going to Writers Police Academy. I have gone numerous times before and this is going to be the last one they put on. The first few were held in Greensboro, North Carolina. Then they moved to Appleton, then Green Bay, Wisconsin. They've all been held at technical colleges that train police officers, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics.
It is a place where I could ask questions like how to make a homemade silencer without ending up on a list of suspicious characters somewhere. It gave me the chance to get up close to a bomb squad vehicle, learn about CSI techniques from someone who used them. I got a tour of a mobile command post, and a ride in a fire department type ambulance. I also got to intubate a dummy and put an IV line into aanother dummy.
There was so much more. There were mock ups of jail cells and booking areas. An actual plane where they held a workshop on dealing with a dangerous passenger.
On a totally separate note, the last time I went to Appleton for WPA, I had time to kill before my flight and went to the Houdini museum. Apparently, he lived there for awhile.
Now it's time to make up for lost time with all the interruptions and get back to writing.

Good morning -- Jakey sounds like my son and grandson in the mornings -- they are definitely not morning people!! My grandson even asked him "How can Grandma be so happy in the mornings?" LOL
Your trip to the park sounds great. The small Texas town we lived in had a wonderful park, zoo and playground -- huge assortment of equipment for the kids to play on. It was called the Frank Buck Zoo -- he was a Gainesville native. When there was a big remodeling job and they added a wooden walkway over a portion of it, planks in the walk were available to purchase and could be engraved with a name or sentiment. Floyd and I bought two to honor our late wife and husband.
The Writers Police Academy sounds fascinating -- I'd like to learn all about those things. I've been to Wisconsin several times, always in the summer!! It is a gorgeous state. We went to the House on the Rock in Spring Green -- that is quite a place.
As always, I've been crocheting a lot. I counted my skeins of yarn -- 106 plus what I'm using for my current project. That should keep me well supplied for a while but sometimes yarn just calls "buy me, buy me" and I can't resist. As for my knitting -- ha, ha!! I did about three inches and decided it could stay on the shelf for a while. I found a website called jjcrochet.com -- she had a short article on why crocheting is so much better than knitting -- I totally agree!! I also found a pattern for a granny ripple afghan on the Yarnspirations website -- two favorites in one!!
I'm making spinach bread for lunch today -- it's sort of like a quiche with a Bisquick layer as crust. Haven't made it in numerous years but it was a favorite at potlucks we went to. I was always told "bring whatever you want, as long as it's spinach bread." I've had the recipe for almost 60 years -- was printed in a newsletter of the bicycle club my husband and I belonged to.
I have a bit of housework to do -- my little condo doesn't take much to keep it spic and span -- then it's back to the hooks. The Project Linus coordinator has requested more blankets in boy-friendly colors -- I'm doing a moss stitch in shades of brown with a touch of yellow and orange.
Enjoy your day -- hope the crochet project for the next Molly book is coming along well.
My Birth mother and her many relatives were all from Appleton and Fond du Lac. She came out here to CA to give birth and place me for adoption, but I guess you could say I am sort of from Wisconsin. If you ever have a chance do go see the House on the Rock--absolutely amazing.
When l wouldn't get up, my dad would appear in my doorway with a pan of cold water. Just the threat of that being dumped got me up in a hurry. I doubt if he would ever have done it !!
You know you are going to wind up with the dog. I have this feeling that you are a lot like Molly, and I have always felt her house is probably based on yours.
Waiting anxiously to see where Molly winds up this time. Adelle wasn't really in the last book--I assume she would want to be the wedding planner !!
How fun that you won free registration to the Writers Police Academy! Would enjoy your posting about how it goes this year.
And enjoy your writing... and the dog!
Patty, waking kids for school is never fun. I used to be crabby in the morning, but as I've gotten older, it's gotten so I wake up wide awake and cheerful.
There are a number of great parks and playgrounds around here. And there's always the backyard.
I'll have to check out the crochet website.
The spinach bread sounds delicious. There used to be these recipes for impossible pie that used Bisquick. I remember a lemon one. I think you mixed all the ingredients together but when it baked, it was like you said - the bisquick formed a crust on the bottom.
With all the commotion at my house and people and animals here all the time, my cleaning is sketchy. I deal with it by not wearing my glasses. If I can't see the dust, it doesn't exist.
I am anxious to work on the crochet project. It is something I always wanted to make. Have a great weekend.
Linda Osborn,
How interesting that your birth mother was from Appleton. The hotel for the weekend is on the main street and it has an old time sort of look. Or it did when I was there a while ago. I'm afraid there won't be time for sightseeing this time. It's a pretty intense weekend with buses leaving the hotel sty 7:30 for the technical college where all the stuff goes on. Breakfast starts at 6:00.
It's lucky your father didn't dump the water on himself.
The dog went home - at least for now. The two cats are celebrating. It was interesting what happened when my son and Jakey were taking the dog to its owner. We had picked up her dog bed from her home along with her toys. My son packed the dog's stuff up and put in the bags of treats we'd gotten her. It was sitting in the yard while they got ready to go. The dog seemed to know something was up and she stayed by my feet and didn't even get excited when she saw the leash. I'm not sure she'll be back her to live, but definitely will be to visit.
Yes, a friend who read my books and knew me did mention Molly and I did have a lot in common. The whole family has brought in stray dogs and cats.
Adele is in this book and she's planning something which of course causes trouble.
Linda O. Johnston, the dog went home today. My son did most of her care which meant moving her around. He said he's exhausted, but he also seemed a little sad to see her go. Jakey was the same.
I will post stuff from the weekend, though they have strict rules about what can and can't be photographed. I think it's because some of the cops might be undercover and don't want their identity let out.
I saw a plaque that read " From dust we came and to dust we shall return. That's why I don't dust -- might be a friend."
The spinach bread was delicious -- the Bisquick base is spread in the baking dish, then the spinach mixture poured on top. I shared with a neighbor and she immediately wanted the recipe. At some point I had a bunch of impossible pie recipes -- don't think I ever made one, though!! I've had as many as 125 cookbooks -- when we were at the university, I cooked and baked a lot -- always hungry kids to feed. When I lost my husband and no longer cooked as much, and also had to make a move, I got rid of all but a few favorites -- a 1954 Betty Crocker, a 1942 Aunt Jenny booklet that belonged to my grandmother and a couple others. Of course, nowadays a recipe for anything can be found on the internet -- I've printed a lot of those and have a file box full of folders for recipes, arranged alphabetically by category. I enjoy just reading recipes.
Have a great weekend -- I'm going to my son's tomorrow for a hot dog lunch and to watch the Phoenix Suns basketball game. Hot dogs are always game-day food for us, no matter the sport.
Patty, I love the plaque saying. I'll keep that in mind.
I have a lot of cookbooks too both here ad in Chicago. I love looking at an old Settlement Cookbook that was the main one my mother used. The cool thing about online recipes is that often they are for things I never thought of. Except for baking, most of my cooking is without a recipe. I do have some old recipes for dishes my mother made. The most frustrate one that was on two index cards and I could only find one.
I grew up on hot dogs. It was before I was a vegetarian and they were the oee thing I missed.. But now they have pretty good plant based ones, so I'm happy. Enjoy the game!
Sorry about the typos in the above comment. I'm on my laptop in a semi dark room and the type is tiny.
Hey there, I'm a professional hacker with extensive experience in the field. I've worked with various companies as a hacker, and after retiring from that, I'm now working independently.
If you're looking for someone who can help you gain unauthorized access to a social media account or ANY OTHER SYSTEM, I'm the right person for the job.
It has been widely recognized for a long time that finding a legitimate hacker on the Dark Net Market (DNM) is extremely difficult, despite the high demand for their services. It is also not uncommon for people to fall victim to scams when attempting to pay for hacking services. A true professional in this field would not offer their services for less and anyone who accepts less is either inexperienced and likely to fail, or a fraud.
The cost of the service depends on the complexity of the task. If you require assistance, you can contact me and I will let you know if I can help.
I specialize in
