Post-LATFOB

Yes, I attended the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books and hung out at the booths I mentioned last week. Lots of attendees! And along with my fellow authors at the booths I stood up and called out to people walking by, “Do you read mysteries? Do you read romance?” It’s one way to get people to come over and talk—even if not many buy books. I can’t say I did great with my book sales, but I nevertheless had a good time.

Will I do it again next year? I might just cut it down to one day, but I’d love to be there—although, as I indicated was possible in my last post, my recollection of what’s where on the University of Southern California campus wasn’t as good as I’d hoped.

Meanwhile, I’m in the middle of writing again, plus deadlines for some edits, one of which I didn’t anticipate at this time. But I’m into it!

Good morning -- I can picture you calling to passers-by "Extra, extra -- read all about it," an adaption of what was done many years ago when newspapers were sold on the street. Glad you had a good time. I grew up in Lincoln, NE near the Nebraska Wesleyan University campus -- last time I was there, about eight years ago, the campus was so different I hardly recognized it. And my old neighborhood -- what were two-lane streets are now four and there are stop lights -- not at all like the good ol' days.

I'm doing my usual crocheting and puttering around my little condo. Gorgeous weather -- it's been in the 90s but so far, I haven't turned on the a/c. There's a big tree that gives lots of shade -- also holds lots of birds that make a mess on my patio, but the shade is worth the cleaning I have to do. Also, the building is made of concrete block which is a great insulator.

Wednesday is most always an early-out day for my grandson, which usually means a Taco Bell lunch for us. Years ago, when my late husband and I lived in a small Texas town that had few restaurants other than Dairy Queen and Taco Bell, we called the TB "fine dining in Stephenville." There was a local restaurant called "Jake and Dorothy's" -- their last name was Roach, which didn't seem like a good name for a food establishment!!

Just had a text from my son -- his first Social Security check was deposited in his account. My baby boy on Social Security -- doesn't seem possible -- time does fly by.

Enjoy your day --

Good morning. Yes, time does fly by! Congrats to your son.

It was definitely fun to call out to people and get a chance to chat with them at the Festival of Books.

How fun to remember places by their restaurants. I grew up in Pittsburgh, and when I was young my grandparents owned a delicatessen downtown.

Enjoy your day too.

Oh, yum to a delicatessen. We used to go to a place called the Brothers Deli in Sacramento -- had the most delicious sandwiches. My favorite was made on black Russian rye bread with several kinds of meat, cheese, cole slaw and Russian dressing. It was huge -- my husband and I would share one.

Henry has other plans for today so no lunch -- boo hoo. Oh well, I'll just keep crocheting!!

It's Patty, again!! "Once a Cavalier" was delivered today -- I've read the first three chapters and love it! I love a little zinger at the end of each chapter that makes you want to keep reading, which I most definitely will. Crocheting may have to wait.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Festival of Books. I wish it was still at UCLA.

Hi Linda -- I am reading "The Glass Slipper" and loving it -- I can picture the beautiful country of Dargentia, the castle and its surroundings. And the fairy godmother is a hoot -- wearing jeans and a magenta sweat shirt. Read a couple chapters, crochet a few rows -- that's the way my day goes.
