Killer Hobbies

I’ve been blogging here at Killer Hobbies for quite a while, and the hobby I’m to write about is pets. I don’t always write about pets here, although my own adorable pups are always hanging around me when I write—or hanging out on the nearby patio if the front door is open, watching the world go by beyond the locked gate in front of them.

So I don’t always write here about pets. But do I otherwise? Pretty much. Nearly all the books I write these days include dogs, sometimes pets and sometimes service dogs or K-9s or a combination of them. Other pets? Occasionally, but I’m definitely a cynophilist— dog lover.

This blog started off including mystery writers. Am I a mystery writer? Definitely, although at the moment I’m concentrating more on romantic suspense. Most of my mysteries contain romance anyway. And murders. Of course. I research a lot, but I’ve only committed murders in my stories. Would I ever kill a person in real life? Of course not. Although if someone happened to injure or kill a dog near me…well, I’d probably just do the right thing and contact the authorities. And definitely be upset.

Do you like romantic suspense? Romance in the mysteries you read? Dogs or other pets?

To my great surprise in my old age I've come to love cats. I got one about two years ago and she is just a delight to me. I still love dogs but given where I lived owning one is more responsibility than I can handle. The last dog we had was a floppy eared lovable Basset Hound named Elwood. He was a delight and kept us laughing. But lazy...wow. That dog could sleep for days. I'm content now to have my cat who doesn't need to be walked during a hurricane.
I love when pets are included in books. It just makes it more fun.

Elwood sounds adorable, Sally, but I have heard fun things about cats, too, including from my younger son and his girlfriend, who have rescued several black cats.

Oops, that was me responding to your comment, Sally , but I am on a different computer that doesn't recognize me!

I always thought the romantic suspense was a kind of mystery. And since hobbies are really passions, your dogs definitely fit in.

You're right, Betty. There's always some suspense and/or mystery in romantic suspense, as well as the romance. And dogs are definitely my passion. So, it looks like I still belong here!
