There is a lot going on as I am still going through DANGER LOOMS and looking ahead to the release of SCONED TO DEATH in June.
And just when I didn't need it, as if there is ever a good time, my computer crashed. It was like hitting a wall and I stopped everything. It was not the disaster I had in the past when I lost all kinds of files ad found out that thumb drives don't work forever. After that, I made sure my files were kept outside my computer.
But even not losing any files, didn't keep me from feeling out of sorts. I started using my ancient Apple laptop to continue on with DANGER LOOMS. My desktop is PC and there is always an adjustment to dealing with the different systems and the small screen, along with the small keyboard and touch screen that doesn't always cooperate. There are differences in navigating Word on an apple computer that I had to deal with.
At the same time I have been dealing with putting things together for a blog tour around the release of SCONED TO DEATH.
The computer crashed on Sunday and I started using the laptop on Monday. Tuesday morning, even though I was sure it was pointless, I decided to turn on my desktop to see what happened. I expected to get the last screen I had seen that basically said there was something wrong that could not be repaired.
I barely wanted to look at the screen as it flashed on...and then miracle of miracles, it went to the usual screen of asking for my code and then went to Microsoft trying to sell me something and finally to my screensaver of the Pacific Grove beach. I kept waiting for something bad to happen, but everything seemed to work.
I'm not sure how it happened and I'm not asking any questions. I am soooo happy to have my PC up and functioning. I did not like dealing with the small screen on the laptop. Suddenly, my whole world seemed easier.
There was some good that came out of it, too. I have a newer Apple laptop that I haven't been using. I went through a whole production of setting it up and downloading a copy of Word and some other things I use, but I couldn't get access to all my files. When it seemed that I would need to rely on that laptop, I finally got that worked out, so the newer laptop is completely functional now. I also learned that the PC tower I have is old news. Now, instead of having a desktop, you just plug in a screen and keyboard into a laptop. Laptop is probably the wrong term and I should call it my Macbook.
In the process of dealing with all the computer stuff, I realized that DANGER LOOMS needs more tweaking than I had thought, but at least I get to work on the more comfortable set up of the PC.
Sometimes you need to hit a bump in the road to appreciate what you have.

Good morning -- Good heavens, all that computer stuff is way beyond me!! I turn on my Mac, put in my password, check a couple bank accounts, see if I have any email and occasionally ask Google a question. And, of course, read Killer Hobbies on Fridays!! That's the extent of my computer use and I'm glad of it. Any problems, I call my son -- he can fix most anything I might encounter.
Last week I mentioned getting pink yarn -- it was a light pink ombre and I used it to make a blanket in the iris stitch. First time to make that stitch and it is beautiful. My favorite kind -- super simple and looks really lovely. The shading of the ombre yarn is perfect for that stitch.
Just heard from my son -- my grandson was accidentally hit in the eye by another player on his volleyball team and has a black eye this morning!! Poor kid -- that's no fun.
Hope your computer keeps working so you can get done all that needs doing. Have a good day.
Oh,Oh---the fake Microsoft deamon. Every couple of months my desktop will totally freeze up. I can't make it do anything. Then a notice pops up that a virus has captured my computer, and I must call their number immediately. The first time I fell for it, the whole screen is filled with Microsoft illustrations and you think it is real. It is a fake , and they want several hundred dollars to fix the virus. I decided to call the Geek Squad, and they quickly explained it is a fake that many people are getting. All you have to do is unpug the computer or even just turn it off. Leave it alone completely for about 10 minutes, plug in, and you are back in business. That is how yours repaired itself, you left it off for a coupe of days. It works for me every time, and don't be surprised if it happens every couple of months.
I've had that happen -- it's scary but I was told to hit the esc button on my MacBook and everything will be fine. Thank goodness, that worked well.
Patty, The pink yarn and the stitch sound lovely. I hope your grandson's eye isn't painful.
Linda Osborn, I will keep that in mind in case it happens again. For now, I am just so grateful that it works!
Computer issues are awful and I truly don't understand how they work. I know they make life easier but also a headache at times. I just went through a major computer issue and it took the Geek Squad at Best Buy weeks to fix it. Ugh. All good now. Hoping you have smooth sailing the rest of the way with your books. As always looking forward to your next edition. Have a great weekend.
Untechie me is really glad things ultimately worked out for you, Betty!
Sally, You're problem must have been bad if it took the Geek Squad that long. I am sure you are relieved it's fixed. I am glad that mine resolved its own problem. Every time I turn it on and it works now, I say thank you.
Linda Johnston, I am sooooo glad things worked out too.
I'm glad the computer is working now. I always call Apple support when I get stuck and they are very helpful. I had to google the iris stitch so I can try it too.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. There are several instructions for the pattern -- my favorite came from a site called theunraveledmitten.com. I think the pattern looks especially nice in the ombre yarns and also the bitty stripes -- the subtle color changes are perfect.
Miriam, You are right about Apple support. I used them when setting up one of my Macbooks and they saved the day. My desktop is a Dell PC and I think it is past the time that they offer support. My fingers are crossed that it stays good with my PC.
Thank you Patty.
