All Over the Place

All the guest blog posts and author takeover posts were swirling around in my mind and I felt stuck.  What to do first and the logistics of how to post them.  I did an author takeover before, but don't remember how I dealt with posting and comments.  There's the new book I'm working on, too.

I have been stumbling along, trying to work on everything at once which was only making me feel more scattered.  And that's without life getting in the middle of it.  A broken motor operated recliner that's stuck in open and the person (not me) who relies on it having to climb in and out of it and not seeing the absurdity that there is no manual way to close it.  The purchase of a new chair which also is motor operated and needs to be put together after removal of the old chair which has to come apart to get it out of the door.

A surprise two day no school for Jakey who spent it here and who asked "What are we going to do today?"  Some other people who will go unnamed hand him a bowl of dry cereal when he says he's hungry.  I couldn't do that and interrupted all to ask him what he wanted to eat and then made him special toast and a selection of cut up fruit.  I offered him an egg, but he declined it.  I had just read about Chef Jose Andre's way to make a microwave eggs.

In case you want to try it-- Mix one egg with about a teaspoon of mayonnaise and a little bit of butter.  Put it in a cup or ramekin and microwave for 30-40 seconds.  It fluffs up nicely and tastes delicious.  It would make a nice egg sandwich.  Maybe next time I'll try to sell Jakey on the sandwich idea.

But back to my being scattered.  I had completed one guest post and had bits and pieces of the others.  I finally figured out what I needed to do to get it all organized.  I need something visual and clear cut.  The lists I had been making were all over the place and had other stuff mixed in.  This time I just focused on all the posts and instead of doing it on paper, did it on my computer --even though I will print it up and handwrite notes on it.  Somehow seeing it like that seems have made it easier to deal with.

Now I'm ready to just go forward and get it all done.  No getting distracted by reading  Remarkably Bright Creatures or watching the movie on Netflix.  Enjoyed both, though I liked the ending of the movie better than the book.  I have been fascinated by octopi since I saw a documentary My Octopus Teacher  also on Netflix.

And now it's time to focus on that list.

The author takeover takes place on Thursday, May 21, from 2-8pm EDT.  My time slot is 4:00-4:30 EDT

Good morning -- I woke up thinking "Yay, Betty posts today," so I'm up really early, reading. You have a lot going on -- I laughed at the idea of watching someone, who shall remain unnamed, climbing in and out of an open recliner. We had one that was operated by pushing backward and forward on the arms. My mother was with us -- the pushing to recline the chair was easy for her -- the pushing to get it upright again wasn't. I had to almost sit on top of her and push to get the darn thing to work!!

What was the special toast you made for Jakey? I used to make French toast for the kids -- cut the slices diagonally and sprinkled them with powdered sugar. My daughter says, to this day, she has a hard time doing that for herself -- it was always something Mama did. I've made eggs in the microwave -- mixed up about four with a bit of water and seasoning -- put them in a buttered glass pie pan. They cook quickly and puff up like a soufflé -- yum.

I took 11 blankets to the cancer treatment center -- the woman I talk to is always so appreciative. She was especially glad I'd made about half that were appropriate colors for men -- she said she gets so many that are too feminine-looking. I started a c2c blanket yesterday -- haven't made one of them in ages. I'm going to make it rectangular -- it always amazes me that the increasing and decreasing of stitches works so well. Whoever figured that out was pretty clever!!

Now I'm going back to bed for a few hours. Have fun with all you have to do.

Your week sounds like mine has been. I knew on Monday morning that it was going to be a trying kind of week. Thankfully it is Friday and a long weekend here in Canada for Victoria Day. I'm glad you enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures. I read the book a few years ago and watched the movie last weekend. I loved them both and thought they did a great job of the movie without making it cheesy. I did enjoy the book a bit more though because they emphasized Marcellus' hilarious antics more. I loved Marcellus so much that I named my sourdough starter after him LOL. When my starter was new, it was stubborn and hard to get going but now with patience and persistence, it never fails me....a true friend just like Marcellus. I hope things settle down for you soon. Have a great weekend!

Patty,
So even the manual recliners can leave you trapped.
Jakey likes Dave's Killer Bread for toast and a dish of lingonberry jam for dipping.
How nice that you made blankets that men would like. The c2c method is really interesting. I hope your nap was good.

Sharon,
I guess crazy weeks are going around. Enjoy your holiday.
What I liked better about the ending with Remarkably Bright Creatures is that she kept the house. The book did give Marcellus more personality. So funny you named your sourdough starter after him.

Well, of course I have had recliner problems too. Several months ago I was just ready to get up when a power failure hit the neighborhood. My legs just could not climb over the arm to get out. I struggled for 2 hours, and finally called my son and grandson. They managed to get me up over the arm enough to slide into my wheelchair. Then this week I was part way up when the chair stopped moving. I managed to slide out, and discovered the cord for the controller was completely cut in half. My son in law tried to splice it, but it was too badly torn. My chair looks pretty worn, but so do I and I don't want to but a new one. So...in a flash I thought of Amazon. !!! They sell the replacement cord and control for ....$12 !!!! I am thrilled. It is hard to imagine the chair manufacturers don't think about putting a manual control on the electric chairs!!!!

Linda Osborn, That had to be scary to be stuck in the chair. I wondered the same thing about why there weren't manual controls on a power chair. I looked online and it seems like there is something about gears not working manually. It's lucky nobody got an electric got an electric shock from the cut cord. I'm glad you worked out fixing it. Aside from the expense, getting a new chair is a hassle. We are faced with getting the old chair out. It is supposed to come apart, but the bottom is still sticking out so getting it outside is going to be hard. Meanwhile the new chair is blocking the front door in a huge box. We went to Living Spaces to pick it out and the chair's user had to pick the most giant one they had.

It has been a challenging week but in a negative sense. I received some sad information about some friends and then I got food poisoning. I'm much better now. My mom had a recliner that broke and would not open and close. It was also a rocking chair. It finally just sat on the ground and we climbed in and out of it. I wish I could participate in the author takeover but I won't be home at that time.

Miriam, I'm sorry for your bad week. Food poisoning is the worst. I'm glad you are better. Your mother's recliner sounds like it became an indoor playground. I'm sorry you won't be able to participate in the author takeover. I hope this week is better for you.

Linda, With your feeling about animals, I'm sure you would enjoy the movie.
