An Afternoon Adventure

I finally, finally sent in DANGER LOOMS and my editor won't get it back to me until the end of May.  In the meantime, I started writing all the blogs for the assorted guest posts I'm going to do.  And getting to the next Crochet and Crumpet book.

It's a little confusing working on the next book when I am writing blogs that concern SCONED TO DEATH that comes out in June.

I decided to plot out the next book before I start writing since I know I will have to set it aside when DANGER LOOMS comes back.  I already know that it takes place around Halloween.  It happens that the day I began to working on the synopsis of the story, the weather here turned cold with an angry sky which went along with fall weather in the story.  I kept having to remind myself that it was spring here while I got lost in the feelings of fall.

All I had to do was tell Jakey that my next book takes place around Halloween for him to get excited.  Halloween is his favorite holiday and he has already been talking about adding more decorations.  Then I mentioned an abandoned miniature golf course and he was off and running.  He was making up his own story from the time we left Malibu yesterday until  he got home.  I didn't get all of it, but there were aliens and a lot of pumpkins in his story.

He gets out of school early one day a week and we had gone to Malibu as an after school activity.  Since our destination was close to where I envision the fancy kid's boutique where Annie Sara and Gray worked before going to Indiana, I thought it might inspire some of the blog posts I have to write.

The ride there is always beautiful through mountains on a windy road.  The view of the ocean is always like taking a deep breath.  Our first choice of stops got nixed as there was no parking  and we went to  the center with the playground.  We got snacks at the Whole Foods and ate at the outdoor tables. Then we found out what I had suspected.  Jakey has kind of outgrown the playground.  He was much more interested in talking.

The cold weather and cloudy sky from the day before was gone and it was back to sun and a gentle temperature.  By the time we went back, it was getting dark and the colors of the sky made the ride even nicer.  There is always so much to look at.  I always discover something new.

I am so looking forward to all of your upcoming books! It sounds like Jakey may be following in your footsteps and perhaps will be a writer someday too. He certainly has a great mentor in you! Enjoy your day and have a great weekend!

Good morning -- You may have a new co-author for your book -- what fun!!

It's been years since I've been to Malibu. I remember going there and watching all the people carrying their picnic baskets, umbrellas, folding chairs, etc., to the beach. There was a girl that was wearing a teeny, weeny bikini and she had a very interesting walk -- I can't describe it except to say it was like each side of her body had decided to go a different way. One step this way, one way that!!

I've been doing my usual crocheting -- finished another iris stitch blanket and I am about to start a ripple. I'd hoped to take a stash of blankets to the cancer treatment center this week but one thing and another got in the way of that -- hopefully next week.

Our weather is lovely at the moment but 109 is predicted for Monday -- summer is here.

Enjoy your plotting, writing and whatever you choose to do. Do you have time to do any crocheting?

Sharon, It is so much fun to be able to spend so much time with Jakey. Right now Jakey says he wants to be a geologist because he loves rocks. Have a great weekend!

Patty, it sounds like you enjoyed going to the beach. You really turn out those blankets. I bet they cheer up the cancer patients.

109! It sounds like time to stay inside. It's gotten pleasantly warm here.

I think I need to work on a big granny square blanket. I need something more relaxing than the toys. I'll have to round up some yarn and get started.
I hope you have a nice Mother's Day.

Its kind of fun when your grands get to the 'let's talk' stage. I miss having young grandchildren but I'm sure enjoying the wonderful people they are becoming. They sure grow up fast. We have lots of bodies of water near us that do provide comfort and places for good conversation. Happy weekend everyone!

Hello - will Sconed to Death be available in Kindle format? I don't see it as an option. I also no longer see a Kindle version of Death Among the Stitches. I know I did read that on Kindle because I can only read ebooks now.
Thank you.

Happy Mother's Day! I love that Jakey is interested in making up stories. He could be a geologist and a writer. I used to go to Moonshadows in Malibu. It was a lovely drive. Unfortunately it burned down in the fires.

Linda, I am so enjoying hearing all about what Jakey thinks. It's pretty funny hearing him and my son both not let each other get a word in. Lucky for them I am a good listener.

Stacey, Thank you for letting me know about Kindle editions not being listed. I just sent a note to my agent to find out what's going on. I expect that once it gets straightened out, they will both be available in Kindle.

Sally, I like to show Jakey pictures of him as a baby that I get as flashbacks on my phone. Such a different world now where so many moments gets captured. It must be interesting talking to your grandkids now that they are even more who they are.

There is just something about being near water that is soothing.

Miriam, I feel so lucky to spend so much time with Jakey. I remember Moonshadows. It's too bad that it's gone. I miss the Sea Lion which is now Duke's.

I had a quik flashback the other day. Remember the exhausting struggle for the Hookers to finish the huge afghan made of granny squares ? I believe Mason finally bought it at the pet auction fund raiser. Well, good fun site TEMU had packs of nice looking granny squares all made up in assorted bright yarns, for something like 20/$5. If only our girls had had that opportunity !! They could have saved so much time using those as fillers !!

Linda, That would have come in handy for them, though I think Adele would have made a fuss. LOL
