I sent in all the guest posts for the blog tour, a single guest post spot and my author takeover spot. I am blogged out. It was a challenge to have everything be about SCONED TO DEATH and not be repetitious. Well, too repetitious. By the end, it was all swimming in my mind and I hope it all makes sense.
I set aside working on the next Molly book and now have to organize all the notes on envelopes and scraps of paper that I scribbled on as ideas popped into mto my head. I had this great idea for the opening scene and so wanted to write it out, but forced myself to just leave notes until the blogs were done. All I'll say about it is that the Hookers are dealing with the new craft space and a gluey mess left by the collagists and maybe somebody gets glued to the floor or their chair. Molly is going to be working for Mason and Barry has a big surprise. Then Bennett from the last book shows up. Of course, there's a murder and Molly is in the middle of it. I have to work out a lot of the details.
Now that the blogs are sent off, I want to turn all the scribbles into typed stuff on my computer before I get back the DANGER LOOMS manuscript next week. Even if the editorial comments are light, I go through the whole manuscript again.
Speaking of handwriting--I read something about the difference between typing and handwriting. They wire up some peoples brains and had them do both. When they were handwriting all different areas of their brains lit up. When they were typing it was way less. I always knew there was a difference. That's why there are all those notes on envelopes and scraps of paper. Mixed in are notes about the next Crochet and Crumpet book which is due in December.
This is a total aside, but am I the only one who is bothered by the labels inside of clothes? No matter how I trim them, there is enough to scratch my skin. It's something new, too. The labels seem badly placed and whatever they are made of, more annoying than before.
May is flitting by so fast. Jakey's school will be out in no time and then it's about summer plans. He's old enough now to make requests. It's such a different world from when I was a kid. My summer option was something at my elementary school. It was everyday and it was up to me to get myself there on my own since both my parents worked. Jakey's generation is so much more dependent. Play dates where the parents go along. They're escorted everywhere. And not released from school until a known person picks them up. Ha! When the bell rang, even in kindergarten, we were left to our own devices about getting home. By Jakey's age, a friend and I would go to downtown Chicago on our own and go shopping and out to lunch at the Circle in Chas A. Stevens.. I remember people saying how cute we were, but I thought the comment was ridiculous and that we were like women of the world.

Good morning -- Wow, you have a lot going on -- I hope you fit in a bit of crocheting with all the other stuff going on.
Sounds like Molly and the Hookers are going to be having an interesting time. Someone getting glued to the floor reminds me of lyrics from an old song -- "I can't get off of my horse, all day and night I ride among the cattle. I can't get off of my horse, 'cause some dirty dog put glue on the saddle." I'll be singing that to myself all day!!
When my son was little, the label in the neck of his shirts drove him crazy. But instead of asking me to cut it out, he'd try to do it himself while the shirt was on. That resulted in shirts having a hole cut in the back!! Thinking back, why didn't I just cut off the labels right away -- no idea why that didn't occur to me!!
I've started a blanket in the iris stitch pattern, using a Red Heart bitty stripes yarn in a color called Rainbow Mist. Gorgeous multicolored pastels. That pattern, the ripple and the basketweave are my favorites -- and, of course, all the variations of the granny.
A bit over a week until "Sconed to Death" arrives -- I'm really looking forward to that.
Enjoy your day and all that you choose to do. I choose to crochet!! My little condo takes about half an hour in the morning to keep everything neat and tidy so I have plenty of crocheting time -- works well for me!!
Patty, The song lyrics gave me a laugh. I don't recall labels being as scratchy as they are now and they are in the side of the T=shirt which seems to make them more likely to move around and scratch. You probably didn't think about cutting out the label because they weren't a problem back then. I guess it was the end of your son's shirt.
Rainbow mist sounds like a lovely selection of colors. I love all the color changing yarns. I am getting a relaxing crochet time in. It is nice to be able to pick it up and work for a little while without all the worry about increases and decreases like in the amigurumi animals.
Enjoy your day!
Blog tours can be fun, but they're definitely strenuous, Betty. Sounds as if you've been busy as usual, but partially in a different direction.
Did you get the recliner issue taken care of? My neighbor had a recliner delivered today -- it has power lift as she has bad back problems -- and it is huge. The deliverymen had to take the front door off its hinges to get the darn thing to fit through -- I certainly hope it works well for her.
Linda, I am taking the evening off and going to watch some escapist thing on TV.
Patty, the new chair is sitting in a huge box by the front door. The plan is tomorrow my son and I will attempt to take the old one apart and get it somewhere out of the way until trash pick up and we'll get it outside. Then install the the new one. It's even bigger than the old one, so I don't know what adjustments we'll have to make in the room. After that, I'll have to deal with the box.
Good luck with all that!!
This is the first time I've heard of a blog tour. I think I saw some of it on Facebook. It came in as part 1, part 2, etc. Then I saw blog posts from other authors. I read some of yours. They were very interesting.
I love learning about your writing process. So many little parts go into such a good story.
I find that the older I get the messier my handwriting gets. It used to be neat. I enjoy writing things out but now I print a lot so I can read it later.
I find clothes labels itchier than they used to be. I always cut the labels off. I love when clothes have the words on the fabric and don't use labels at all.
Like you, when I was a kid we could go all over the neighborhood without an adult present. We would get on our bikes and be gone for hours. Now when I see kids out by themselves I wonder where their parents are. It's a different world.
Miriam, What you saw was called a Takeover. It seems to be a thing with facebook groups. The blog tour is me doing guest posts about the upcoming book on different blogs. There will also be spotlight posts on other blogs which I think means they mention the book or give a review. I can understand your interest in the process since I like hearing how other writers work.
I notice my handwriting has changed too. A lot of the time when I handwrite stuff and go to put it on the computer, I can't read what I wrote, but I usually remember enough so I can figure it out.
The itchy labels seems to be something new. Even if you cut out most of them, the little left still irritates me. I like it best when they put the info on the fabric.
Now when kids are out alone, they call it free range kids and people have gotten in trouble with the police. It wasn't idyllic when I was a kid. There were actually lots of dangers, but we were taught to be streetwise and to be home by dark.
Betty, thank you very much for explaining this. These terms are new to me. I was reading the posts and didn't even know it was a Takeover.
Free range kids is also a new term. It sounds like free range chicken. When I was a kid the biggest problem were the drunks in the alley. We knew to avoid them.
Miriam, It sounds like you were streetwise too.
