Out and About Online

Last week I blogged about how wonderful it was to be distracted from my work--by family.  And most especially by my baby grandson.

Right now, I’ve got more time to dig in and work on the books I’m writing.  But that’s not all.  I have two--that’s right, two!--new books being published in February.  That’s only about two months away now, and I want to do everything I can to get the word out so people will know about them.  Which books?  My next Alpha Force Harlequin Nocturne UNDERCOVER WOLF, and my next Pet Rescue Mystery OODLES OF POODLES for Berkley Prime Crime.

Since there’s a little bit of time till then, I want to plan on letting people know about both books as much as possible using social media.  I’ve been invited to participate in some online blogs and magazines, and will be delighted to do that.

I’ll also be working on a blog tour.  I’m on Facebook, but have been avoiding Twitter since I’m already too distracted by the things I actually do online.

I’m additionally looking for ideas.  So--what can you suggest?  Are there any blogs besides Killer Hobbies that you read and think I should try to guest on?  Any groups or magazines or anything else you can suggest that I do?

And, okay, hit me with it.  Do you think I should join Twitter?

Whether you’re a reader, writer or both, what are your favorite online methods for authors to let readers know about new releases?

I'm not a Twitter person, so I would be fine with you not using it! I have to be reminded to look at blogs, but I do spend too much time on Facebook! I'm excited to hear about Oodles of Poodles. I'm going to have to seriously slow down spending money this coming year--even on books (well, that's the main thing I buy, so I guess that should be <especially books), but I'll definitely put it on my wish list and maybe I'll get it for my birthday! If not, I'm sure it will be among whatever books I DO buy!

Hi Linda,
I love Twitter, but mostly because I use TweetDeck, which sorts tweets into columns I choose (I have colums for fashion, and Doris Day, among others). I'm also in a Twitter chat group called Mysteristas. We talk mysteries for 1 hour every Tueday at 10 PST. Feel free to follow our hashtag (#mysteristas) and join in the conversation to test the waters!

Hmmm, Carol B--consider this a reminder to keep watching Killer Hobbies--but since you commented, I suspect you do! I hope you'll get to read Oodles of Poodles. In fact, I'll probably be giving copies away as prizes when I start my guest blogging so also consider this a reminder to check out where else I'm blogging.

You sound very knowledgeable and organized, Diane--and thanks for the invite to join Mysteristas. That gives me more incentive to give Twitter a try. BTW, I just learned that the Doris Day Animal League started Spay Day USA in 1994. I'm writing an article on it for the next issue of American Pet Magazine.

I am on Twitter, but still haven't figured out the hashtag thing. I don't know how everybody has so much time to spend on social media.

I'm on Twitter and have found that it does increase the traffic on my blogs. Some of the time. Congrats on two books in the same month!
