I'm in Abbott Northwestern Hospital, suffering a serious infection in my right knee. The Baker Cyst that ruptured help disguise the fact of the infection and it wasn't until the pain was not brought under control by oxycontin (is that how you spell it?) that they started looking elsewhere. I had surgery Monday afternoon to "lavage" (wash out) the poison and I'm feeling better. But it's the wrong kind of infection, the kind that resists antibiotics, so this is going to be a long siege. The hospital is nice, the doctors and nurses are nice, I have hopes of an ordinary recovery.
But I'm still taking significant doses of dialudid and so am not tracking very well. I should take notes on the hallucination I had on waking up in recovery, where I was convinced I was in the basement area of Burger King - which I knew was wrong and so wondered if I had died and this was not the afterlife I was expecting at all. And this opthamalogist kept wanting to talk to me about a "dazzle effect" of sunlight that got into my eye and wouldn't go away. Except that turned out to be real and I have an appointment tomorrow with the eye doctor about it. Life can be very unconvincing.
Keep me in your thoughts and I'll post more as I learn about it.

Betty! I hope you feel better soon and that the only lingering aftereffects are some fun hallucination stories. So sorry you're feeling poorly....
Wow, Monica, I'm really sorry about the infection and all. but I admire you for managing to post your blog in the midst of hallucinations and all. Best wishes for a fast recovery.
Listen to your doctors and nurses. Get well soon.
It is good to hear that you are getting treatment for your painful condition. I hope for an "ordinary" recovery for you. I hope the pain subsides soon. Get well soon.
Get well soon.
Latest update: the stuff being drained from her leg is turning green. They are going to operate again tomorrow (Friday the 25th).
So sorry to hear about your physical issues, Monica. I've been out of town and am just getting the opportunity to comment. Feel better soon!
