Horrible Heat

I wrote last week about something wonderful: my younger pup Cari's first birthday.

This week, not so wonderful.  I began writing this post yesterday, during major heat in Los Angeles.  I checked, and it was 102 degrees yesterday around where I live.  Yes, in October.  LA often has an autumn, not as cool and wet as in many other parts of the country, but this kind of killer heat isn't normal.

I'm a much bigger fan of cold than heat, so I wasn't particularly happy.  Plus, both my dogs have become good at letting me know when they want to go outside.   In that kind of heat they turn around at first and want to go back in, but I have to assume they had a reason to go out and not let them in till they accomplish it.  As a result, we all stay outside for a while--hopefully not too long.

At least I mostly get to remain inside and work on my computer, as I do nearly every day.  My office is nice and cool with the air conditioner on.  If I needed more incentive to hang out and write, staying comfortable like that certainly helps.

Right now, I'm still working on my ninth and final Alpha Force paranormal romance for Harlequin Nocturne.  People are shapeshifting in my mind and on the computer screen.

Yesterday was supposed to be the last of this absurd heat.  And today it is cooler--in the 90s.  Cooling off for the rest of the week means the highs will still be in the 80s.  That's still a lot better than 100s.
