Murder Ink

I had nice surprise the other day when I got my copies of the trade paperback edition of MURDER INK.  I am pushing to finish the rewrite of BUT KNOT FOR ME, but I think I have been trying too hard which never works that well for me.  And I’m battling a million interruptions. I got some work done today. A lot of it was just moving around in the manuscript trying to make sure that changes I’d made hadn’t caused a problem – like a character saying something they couldn’t possibly know. In a mystery make one change and it could  affect everything else.  But then I threw in the towel.

At my suggestion we went out to dinner.  Everything is still a little cockeyed.  Even though as of June 15, restaurants could be at full capacity, the Panini Grill seemed to have half as many tables and an overactive air conditioner.  There was enough empty space to have a dance floor.   I love their tofu kabobs.

Afterwards we zoomed across the Valley to Studio City for ice cream.  It was already almost closing time for McConnell’s, but there were lots of people out and about.  Before it wouldn’t have seemed like such a big deal, but now it was just nice to see so much life out on the street.

We made a stop at a new place called the Beignet Box.  It was literally two minutes to closing, but they still made some up to order.  There little squares of deep fried dough covered in powdered sugar.

We took Ventura Boulevard back across the Valley and my neck got a good work out as I swiveled my head back and forth trying to catch everything on both sides of the wide street.  I only wished the car was moving slower, so I could take more in.

It feels like forever since we did a late night ice cream run.  It feels strange and nice at the same time.  It feels good to wear lipstick again.  It feels good to go out and do something spur of the moment.

I hope it was just the break I needed and I’ll tackle my manuscript with renewed energy.

It is wonderful to wear lipstick again. I love it and I'm happy to see people out and about. We are basically maskless here in Florida. I guess that's good but honestly I'm not sure. Virus numbers are on the rise amongst the unvaccinated. Sigh...

Sally, I so agree about wearing lipstick again. It's still mixed masks and maskless here in the San Fernando Valley. The number of cases and rate of positivity has gone up here, but it appears to be in areas where there is a low rate of vaccination. They are offering bribes to get the shot, but still the people resist. It's crazy.

Your Studio City venture and back sounds fun--especially the ice cream! And congrats on getting the trade paperback versions of MURDER INK.
