I do love how I have access to so much information on my computer and phone. No more wondering what year a song came out or how old a particular actor is. You can also learn all kinds of things with online webinars and classes.
But on the down side it's clear that my computer and my phone aren't really mine. I'm sure I'm not the only one who had gone to their computer in the morning only to find that it shut down and restarted all on its own, or by order from Microsoft. There's no warning or choice in the matter either. The McAfee trial is long over and I have installed another protection plan, but I still get pop up ads from McAfee with no x in the corner to make them disappear. It's either get more information or remind me later.
I guess there's no pleasure without some pain. On the upside, I signed up for a four week class in book promotion. I have been very lax in it for my books. I have been turning then in and going through all the edits and copy edits and then losing track of them. I decided to try something different with MAKING IT WRITE. It comes out in August which gives me some lead time to arrange for some media coverage. The class I'm taking promises to tell how to do it. We'll see. I'm looking at it as an adventure, a challenge with the outcome unknown.
So far, I've had problems with the mechanics. The voice of the presenter has been almost unhearable. I tried my computer with earphones and my phone with earphones. I had the volume turned up for both and kind of heard it on my phone. It's always a question of what's the cause of the problem. It's part of life now trying to figure out who or what is to blame. It's funny how quick and instant things are with computers until you run into a problem and then it can be all kinds of wasted time while you go in circles.
I'm sure I'll get it worked out, but it reminds me why I don't do more online stuff. It seems there is always some obstacle like today I read a really well done article and I wanted to post a comment to compliment the writer, but in order to do that I had to sign up and create a password. Sorry whoever wrote it, but I just dropped the plan then.
I'm ready to give the pr class another try.

I have trouble with sound on my laptop, too. My phone is better, but my husband's new Ipad is great. Except that I prefer the laptop. Why can't it just have been volume???
Computers and I don't get along when there are technical problems. But I do love how easy it usually is to look things up when I get a question in my mind about many kinds of other issues. Good luck with your class! And I admire you for learning more promotion methods.
Miss Merry, it seems with computers there are always so many things to consider. When I stopped freaking out about the sound and thought about it rationally, I noticed there are a number of ways to deal with sound on my computer. I was using the volume control on the speakers, but I there is also some control on the keys. I'm hoping that makes a difference.
Linda, it is so much fun to be able to type in questions on my phone and indulge my curiosity. I don't know if what I learn in the class will make a difference, but it is already stimulating my mind which is great.
