Pondering Others' Thoughts

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what others’ thoughts are. Oh, not just people, whom I can ask and they might sometimes tell me. Or even my pups who communicate their thoughts in ways other than speech—like staring at me with their heads cocked, especially when treats are nearby.

But I go to a park usually twice a week to meet up with other women where we join in an exercise program where one of the women leads us and times each of the exercises. And at that park, I also see non-people who intrigue me sometimes. Oh, a lot of people walk their dogs around there, which isn’t surprising. But then there are the crows, who caw and click and fly, and otherwise communicate. There are also parrots—yes, non-native but they’re wild around there, and they also fly and make their parrot calls. And sometimes there are also squirrels on the ground or pavement or trees, who also do their chatter.

And then I come home and watch hummingbirds and squirrels and hawks and several kinds of smaller birds.

In case you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m a real animal lover, although dogs are my favorite. But I love watching other types and wondering what they’re thinking.

Maybe they’ll tell me someday in a way I can understand, and I can write about it!

Meanwhile, I’m still working on my usual manuscripts and plottings. And happy March everyone!

Good afternoon -- I, too, often wonder how various animals communicate. There are three ducks that come each spring to the swimming pool -- this year, a fourth joined them and they communicated their displeasure by flying at it, fluttering their wings in fury. The fourth stayed on the far side of the pool by itself for a few days, then apparently got the message it wasn't welcome and left. My mother-in-law used to put a couple slices of lunch meat on the kitchen floor -- her dog would hide around the corner of the room and wait for my pup to go toward them, then attack her in a flurry of barking. She certainly let her feelings be known!!

It's beautiful weather here -- bright blue skies and puffy white clouds. I have a friend at Tahoe who says it has been pure misery up there -- more snow than she's ever seen.

I'm still doing my usual crocheting -- always keeps me busy.

Enjoy the rest of your day and your week.

How cute that you have ducks come to visit, but I'm sorry they're not welcome. And glad your m-i-l's dog communicated with her!

And we had some more rain today.

Enjoy your week!

I am constantly wondering what my cat is thinking about. She tends to sit to the side of a doorway and peek around the corner as if she is studying what I'm doing. Or all of a sudden she has to zoom to the other side of the house. It is fascinating to watch her.

I also enjoy watching the birds. We have a small pond with a waterfall in our yard and the birds sit on the lily pads and take bird baths occasionally flying into the waterfall as if to shower off.

I feel blessed to see them.

My dogs tend to convey to me what they're thinking, Sally. Roxie will drop toys in front of me so I'll throw them or stand on the back of one of our sofas and "talk" so I'll take her out. Cari stares when she wants food, or to go out. It's always fun to communicate with them!
