Thanksgiving is over and now it's straight through to Christmas. The decorations at Costco are no longer too early. The Christmas tree lots are open for business.
I finally, finally wrote The End for MURDER BY THE HOOK and sent it in on Monday. It was a great relief to send it off. I was so focused on it that I ignored everything else and can now get caught doing things like updating my website for DEATH AMONG THE STITCHES which comes out at the beginning of January.
I got a notice that the e-book of ONE FOR THE HOOKS is going to be on a special deal in December and need to get the word out.
I find it hard to read when I'm working on a book, but now that it's finished, I finally read THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ. All I have ever known of it was the movie and I wondered what the book was like. I was surprised at how much killing there was in the. They were all bad guys, but still the Tin Man did a lot of whacking with his axe.
There's a lot online right now since WICKED came out. There was an awful story about Margaret Hamilton who played the Wicked Witch of the West. Her face got burned and they had to scrub her skin because the green makeup was toxic. Needless to say it was painful. And then after the movie was done, she still had a greenish tinge to her face.
The first Tin Woodman was Buddy Ebsen, but he got sick from the aluminum dust in his costume and was replaced.. And then there are countless stories about how Judy Garland was treated. It makes it hard for me to watch the movie without thinking about the actors.

Good morning -- Hurray for finishing your book -- I'm sure it's a good feeling.
We had a good Thanksgiving -- family and friends. I made the dump cake my grandson loves -- he probably finished off the 9 x 13 pan last night. As always, there was way too much food -- but I guess that is almost traditional. I try to make sufficient but not go overboard when I do a complete meal. My preference is to do all the food myself rather than the potluck variety -- I like to plan foods that go well together and look good on a plate.
I watched "The Wizard of Oz" a couple weeks ago -- I'd heard all the horror stories about poor Judy Garland and how the makeup affected some of the stars. My son and I saw the movie about Judy's life -- it was tragic.
With the items I've crocheted plus ordering a few things online, I'll probably not set foot in a store to shop for Christmas. I have decorations I've used for years -- takes about an hour to decorate my little condo inside and out in holiday finery!! I did a lot more when the kids were little but now minimal suits me fine.
Enjoy your day and whatever you plan to do.
Patty, I guess the Thanksgiving tradition is too much food. I like your idea of how the food looks together on the plate.
I love MEET ME IN ST LOUIS, but it is harder to enjoy knowing how Judy Garland was treated.
Nice that you don't have to worry about braving the crowds. I'm sure your decorations are very festive.
Enjoy your weekend!
It's interesting to read about how movies were made in the past. Actors and behind the scenes workers were subject to all kinds of illnesses later in life due to the working conditions. Thankfully that has changed for the better.
I'm so looking forward to your upcoming books. As I was a bit more sedentary this year, I read 120 books. All of yours were read for a second and some a third time. Thank you for your hard work.
Lots of crocheting too. Thankfully, I'm back to almost normal but the reading bug will stay with me. Happy Thanksgiving!
Sally, that's a lot of reading! I am honored that you read my books more than once.My only connection to Judy Garland was that I met Liza Minnelli in the ladies lounge of the Beverly Hilton during the Golden Globe Awards years ago. She was super friendly, but seemed so fragile. I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. I was at the messy part of a cold and sent my family off to our invited dinner.
