Another Week

July is almost over.  Walmart has a big back to school display with crazy low prices like twenty-five cents for white glue.  Costco has begun with the Halloween decorations.  Last week I noticed a big skeleton hovering over an aisle.  I just read that Starbucks is starting their pumpkin spice drinks early.

I felt like I was in a season no man land for most of this week.  The morning were all cool and gray which is very un-summer like in Southern California.  Not that I'm complaining.   It was great not to have to turn on the air conditioning and to actually be cold when we had pizza on an outside patio in the evening.

I had to use my imagination to write of languid summer with in Indiana for SCONED TO DEATH.  Right now writing has become a welcome distraction from other stuff I'm dealing with and once I am feeling that humid weather as I write about it and have to take a moment when I stop to recalculate where I am.

There have been daily trips to take my husband stuff at the rehab place.  The place is much nicer, but the whole situation has stirred up an undercurrent of emotion.  It was exactly at this time of year I dealt with my mother being in a rehab place and then back to the hospital.  I distinctly remember being in her hospital room that last time.  Rain was making slash marks on the window as I sat there alone. She didn't even look like herself anymore.  Down the hall, someone was being released.  There were balloons and happy chatter.  It was a reminder that life went on as my mother's was ending.  She died the next day

Good morning -- Current happenings can stir up memories from the past. I hope your husband is making a good recovery.

The weather here hasn't been too bad -- it was 118 a couple weeks ago but has been in the low 100s since -- not bad at all with the very low humidity.

I continue with my crocheting -- working on a basketweave using a pale pink ombre yarn -- the subtle color changes work well with that pattern. My next blanket will be a horizontal stripes granny -- I'd decided on the colors but have changed the sequence a bit -- I'm going to do the bulk of the blanket in one color and do a band of several colors near the top edge. Fewer tails of yarn to weave in, too, which is always a plus!!

Looking forward to "Sconed to Death" -- have you decided on Molly and the Hookers next adventure?

Enjoy your day, your writing and whatever else you choose to do.

Patty,
Husband coming home on Sunday. I'm not sure how that's going to go. 118 sounds terrible, low 100s with no humidity still sounds pretty hot. I am treasuring every day of moderate weather we've been having. Your plans for the blanket sound good. Having fewer ends to weave in is always good.

I think I wrote some notes on Molly's next adventure, but Casey gets to have one first. In the meantime, I'm enjoying having the window open and cool morning air come in as I work on SCONED TO DEATH. To get in the mood, I had crumpets for breakfast.
Enjoy your crocheting!

This is funny -- when I saw that "118 sounds terrible," my first thought was "why does Betty think what I weigh is terrible." I just weighed myself this morning and that is my weight!!

It's strange how things are changing regarding the time of the year, Betty. School stuff now? Sure. Some schools even begin in August. But Halloween items? And I'm not exactly thrilled to see Christmas in July shows on TV.

And cooler weather in LA? I like it. For one thing, our ant infestation is less when it's cool outside.

Hope all's going well with your husband in rehab, and that he'll be well enough to come home soon. And hugs to you for your memories of your mom's last days.
