SCONED TO DEATH is due August 31and while I will have the ending done by then, I need to go over the whole manuscript again.
I had planned out to write the draft of the book and set aside while I wrote a draft of the next Yarn Retreat book. I expected to have plenty of time to do the rewrite of SCONED TO DEATH and go over the manuscript another time. Then when it was done and back to my editor, I would work on rewriting the Yarn Retreat book.
It would have worked except for all the health issues with my husband. The people who work at the hospital and rehab place all have their shifts end. Mine does not. It is a relief that he can now do more for himself.
As it is, I only asked for an additional two weeks for SCONED TO DEATH. It's another story for the next Yarn Retreat book. I have the basic plot worked out and some notes, but that's it.
It's due September 30, and I'm sure I'm going to need more than a two week extension.
The hard thing about writing is that you can sit down at your computer and be all set to work, but your muse has decided to take time off and your editor's voice is in your head forever saying "that doesn't track," when you type a sentence.
Trying too hard simply does not work. I need to get away. I need to do something fun to recharge my battery. I'm supposed to go to Disneyland tomorrow with Jakey and my son and I'm hoping that might be it. Even though it will take a lot of advance planning to be away for that many hours.

Good morning -- You have definitely had a lot going on -- all that is draining, emotionally and physically. Have you thought about having someone come in, at least a couple times a week, to stay with your husband while you get away to have time for yourself. A friend has used Visiting Angels and says they are wonderful.
I'm working on a cross stitch blanket now -- love that pattern. The first time I saw a woman doing it, many years ago, I was amazed crochet stitches could be formed that way. My grandmother crocheted a lot but always with thread -- she made ruffled doilies for lamp tables, and antimacassars for all the sofas and chairs -- I hated them!! She never made an afghan. The only thread crocheting I've done is making hot pads and edging on pillowcases.
Hope you enjoy Disneyland -- it's the world's happiest place!!
Patty, thanks for the suggestion, but he doesn't even want his cousin to come over. I put off going to Disneyland for a week when he will hopefully be even more mobile and I will be able to be away.
The cross stitch pattern sounds interesting. I haven't done much with thread either. The coolest thing I saw made with thread was a silver crown. The woman who made it is an avid crocheter and she wore the crown at the Knit and Crochet Conference a while back. She used a lot of starch.
Life sounds full and a bit stressful for you right now. I hope you find a little escape time. Since you are a successful author, does reading a good book help you escape? Or is it a bit of more work for you? Reading and crocheting are my escapes and I'm grateful for your wonderful books. Wishing you some peace and a few minutes of downtime.
Sally, reading has changed for me. It's hard for me to just read without having a running conversation with myself about what I'm reading, what I like, what I don't like, etc. My recent escape from it all has been watching some soap opera like series on TV. I started crocheting again, yesterday. I decided to forget about finishing the kitten for now. I'm making a hen from a pattern found online. It's pretty easy and the finished project is a lot more appealing than the kitten (the kitten has an oversized head on a small little body.)
My best downtime is going for a ride. I particularly like the ride taking Jakey back to his mom's. It doesn't matter how many times, I see the same views, I always like looking out the window.
